Russia began dropping cases on Wednesday against the Greenpeace activists, detained over a September protest staged at a Russian Arctic oil rig, as part of a broad prison amnesty approved by state lawmakers earlier this month.

The St. Petersburg Investigative Committee had formally dismissed charges against at least 16 of the activists by Wednesday afternoon. All 30 are expected to be cleared by the end of the day.

The activists should be able to go home within days once they receive exit visas.

The Russians sent the message they wanted to send, and now they get to look magnanimous. I hate giving them credit, but there it is.

Yep, a severe spanking was administered, and now they can go home. Greenpeace will not lightly attack Russian targets again. Good P.R. move. Smart.

But then, Russia has some pretty smart people in charge. Gangsters and thugs, but smart.

Seems like Pooty Poot is going soft these days. Letting his political opponents live, not keelhauling the Green Peace crew, and hasn't killed a journalist in a while.

He must be doing the horizontal bop on his new squeeze (a gymnast) every day.

Well, he wants some world leaders to visit his 2014's Olympics. Obama will be absent instead he sends some notorious fags with the U.S. delegation.

Putin and Russia look magnanimous to the world, while the message was clear. Stay in the West and screw up American business and the American economy, there has been a shift in power in the world, and Russian interests will be protected.

The choice for "environmentalists" is clear, lose your assets in the East, or keep your environmental extortion in the West where you're a protected species.

Like Communism, Russia has found they can ship some of their other troubles to America.

Travis McGee @3: But then, Russia has some pretty smart people in charge. Gangsters and thugs, but smart.

Whereas the gangsters and thugs in the White House are just plain stupid... traitorous, but stupid.

What that says about the EEG readings of 66 million people who voted Demonrat is left as an exercise for the reader.

Exactly. They’ve slapped the Greenpeacers, and are now playing the international politics effectively. You have to give Putin credit for effectively acting in his country’s interests, unlike Obama and his foreign policy idiots.

Now I’d like to see the Japanese grow a set and sink those hippy protester pirates.

Putin, it has been said, is situating himself to be the leader of the world’s Conservatives. I guess he recognizes the failures Socialism and of the Chief world Socialist, Obama. Putin, although a closet dictator, makes me like him better than Obama, a Lying Offensive Closet Dictator. In essence, I see Putin’s hand in the Green Peace stuff. Just sayin...

Being Leftists, Greenpeace may not be smart enough to have gotten the hint - perhaps when someone starts using them for naval target practice...
