This reminder from the New York Post came on Christmas, when few paid attention, but it’s worth noting today. The disastrous rollout of ObamaCare is only the appetizer for Americans, the 2013 lead-in to higher costs and fees built into the so-called Affordable Care Act. What most people haven’t heard — yet — is the new fees that ObamaCare charges for access to those higher premiums:
The cost of President Obamas massive health-care law will hit Americans in 2014 as new taxes pile up on their insurance premiums and on their income-tax bills.
Most insurers arent advertising the ObamaCare taxes that are added on to premiums, opting instead to discretely pass them on to customers while quietly lobbying lawmakers for a break.
But one insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, laid bare the taxes on its bills with a separate line item for Affordable Care Act Fees and Taxes.
The new taxes on one customers bill added up to $23.14 a month, or $277.68 annually, according to Kaiser Health News. It boosted the monthly premium from $322.26 to $345.40 for that individual.
These “fees” will add up to a considerable hike, as the Post notes. They include a 2% fee on the plans themselves for consumers, which will eventually raise $14.3 billion a year for the federal government. Insurers are paying a 3.5% fee for participating in the exchange, a cost to the risk pool that will get transferred — as all risk-pool expenses do — to the consumers in the form of higher premiums. The medical-device tax has long been debated, and will also get passed to the consumer.

The only people who don’t like high taxes are racists.
The sooner this horror story collapses, the better.
The coming ground swell in 2014 should do the job if the people continue to learn that “Obamacare” is not about health insurance.
People with a little bit of money pay the taxes on their insurance policies so those with no money can get it for free. In Obama’s words to Joe the Plumber, it’s “spreading the wealth around.”
Say no to Obamacare, and all the fascist loons who have inflicted us with it.
You are taxed on a crappy product, if you can get it. If you don’t sigh up in time it will cost you big time. What a racket. Is the Mafia in charge of our country?
I wonder if there will be a ground swell? I can’t believe there is not growing anger but is it enough? Are we guilty of mere wishful thinking? Will the pubbies field useful candidates? Can a good person win election? I wonder if anger is fermenting or if it will fizzle out?
I have no idea how many fees are included in the premiums. I wonder how much frustration, fear and uncertainty are in families who can’t write checks and ask questions later?
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year obungo style.
I’ve been cancelled, reinstated, cancelled for “non-paymet” when they applied my premium to the wrong policy and billed three times including corrections just this month. I’ve paid over $5,000 in premiums and “corrections” in December knowing I’m being over charged but not wanting to be cancelled again for “non-payment” and assuming they will eventually get the bills sorted out.
RE: I wonder if there will be a ground swell? I cant believe there is not growing anger but is it enough?
It will all depend on the number of people whose policies get cancelled and are now going to pay MORE for their healthcare vs the number of people who are SUBSIDIZED and get it for free.
This is one DIVIDED country we have. 47% is the make or break number and if the latter comes close to exceeding 50%, we are SCREWED.
NONE of the “advantages” of 0bamacare will come true. The economy will begin to show a domino effect of downfall, as those who DO keep/want/need their insurance try to keep up with their premiums, but have no discretionary money left for anything else.
My small employer dropped the group plan for 2014, and we are onto an individual plan, with some subsidy still from the employer. My premium will be 148% of 2013 premium. I believe we no longer have group term life insurance. I can no longer go to my doctor of 30 years. Your experience sounds like a nightmare, and hopefully will get your money back soon.
If elections are not fixed (which I believe they are), then every scoundrel responsible for this mess that is up for re-election, should not even receive one vote.
As a poll watcher in PA, I can confirm your beliefs.
The demonRATs will do any thing to win, and I've seen most of it.
You say divided. I say polarized. I guess it is the same but polarized sems more like a face off which is what I expect.
I think we are already screwed. Free chit is just too good a deal to pass up. Besides, they are out breeding us my miles.
