Mandela, Churchill and the War for the Future

By their heroes shall you know them.

In his eulogy, President Obama put Nelson Mandela in the company of three other heroes: Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Abraham Lincoln.

What did these men have in common? Three were assassinated, and all four are icons of resistance to white rule over peoples of color.

Lincoln waged the bloodiest war in American history that ended slavery. Gandhi advanced the end of British rule in India. King led the civil rights struggle that buried Jim Crow. Mandela was the leader of the revolution that overthrew apartheid.

Obama's heroes testify to his belief that the great moral struggle of the age is the struggle for racial equality.

For the neocons, the greatest man was Winston Churchill, because he stood up, almost alone, to the great evil of the age -- Nazism.

Thus, to neocons, Munich was the great betrayal because it was there that Neville Chamberlain, rather than defy Hitler, agreed to the return of the Sudeten Germans to German rule. [To the Old Right, Yalta, where Churchill and FDR ceded Eastern Europe to Stalin, a monster as evil and more menacing than Hitler, was the greatest betrayal.]

But what did Churchill think of Obama's hero Gandhi?

"It is alarming and nauseating to see Mr. Gandhi, a seditious Middle Temple lawyer, now posing as a fakir of a type well known in the east, striding half naked up the steps of the Viceregal Palace ... to parlay on equal terms with the representative of the Emperor-King."

What did Churchill think of ending Western white rule of peoples of color? Here he is in 1937:

"I do not admit ... that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia ... by the fact that a stronger race, a higher grade race ... has come in and taken its place."

Here is Churchill during World War II:

"I have not become the King's first minister in order to preside over the liquidation of the British Empire."

In short, Dunkirk defiance aside, Churchill's convictions about the superiority of some races and civilizations, and their inherent right to rule what Kipling called "the lesser breeds without the law," was and is the antithesis of what Obama believes.

Any wonder Obama shipped that bust of Churchill that "W" kept in the Oval Office back to the British embassy. Any surprise Obama failed to show up at the funeral of Margaret Thatcher, a Churchillian who sent the fleet to retake the Falkland Islands from Argentina.

The point: Obama's vision of an ideal world and Churchill's are irreconcilable. Second, not only is Churchill dead, his empire is dead, his world is dead, and his ideas on superior races and civilizations would be censured and censored if spoken in any international forum.

We are in Obama's world now. It is a world where not only are all races, religions and civilizations equal, but within nations the greater the diversity of races, religions, cultures and ethnic groups the better.

And not only should all have equal rights, but more equal rewards.

Inequality equals injustice. Income inequality is the new enemy.

But though Obama's world is today, it is looking less like tomorrow.

Across the Middle East and Africa, Islamists are murdering and persecuting Christians as they do not regard Christianity as equal.

Ethnonationalism unites Chinese against Tibetans and Uighurs and propels a confrontation with the Japanese who have never been forgiven for the Rape of Nanking.

Vladimir Putin is in the crosshairs of Western secularists for seeking to revive and restore Orthodox Christianity and its moral precepts to primacy in Russian law, which likely means no Gay Pride parades in Red Square any time soon.

In a Christmas card to this writer, the Washington Post's Harold Meyerson brings up my late father's support of Spain's Gen. Francisco Franco -- to reveal the son's suspect motives.

In a civil war from 1936-1939, Franco ran off a Christophobic regime of Socialists, Stalinists and Trotskyists as their comrades of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion got waxed at Jarama River and ended up on the Attorney General's List of Subversive Organizations.

Sorry about that, Harold.

Across Europe, globalism and transnationalism, as represented by the eurozone and EU, seem in retreat, as nationalism is resurgent. Now it is the UKIP, a new British independence party, which seeks to secede from the EU that is surging -- at the expense of the Tories.

Let France be France! Let British be Britain! Let Scotland be Scotland! These are the cries coming from the hearts of Europeans rejecting mass immigration and the cacophonous madness of multiculturalism.

All men may be equal in rights. But most prefer their own faith, country, culture, civilization, and kind. They cherish and wish to maintain their own unique and separate identities. They do not want to disappear into some great amalgam of the New World Order.

Whether globalism or nationalism prevails, the big battle is coming.

Ghandi supported Fascism. Mandela supported Communism and Islamic dictatorships.

Not everyone is always admirable.

Some are downright scoundrels.

Brits thought they were better than everybody. They fought us and they slaughtered the Irish.

Imerialism had its weakness and evil—BUT—that being said, look at what has happened to the former colonies around the world? Only a few of Churchills “lesser breeds” have done anything but bring poverty, violence and corruption to their woebegon lands. They were better off under the old empires—that is sadly the truth. They will be plucked up under a new form of Imperialism—maybe under Chinese rule or Islamic—they will find that the old white rule wasn’t so bad after all. sad but true.

I think if you take anything away from studying ‘heroes’ and ‘villains’ of the past, it is that human beings are complex. Any media-driven attempt to weave a Christ-like helix around a human being is usually based on lies and omissions. What’s startling is this smoke screen’s impenetrability.

I told my father a couple of days ago after he jibed me for being no fan of Mandela , point blank that the man had been responsible for the murder of innocent children, both black and white. His response was simply this...
“Mandela was a good man”.
No engagement with the facts presented because he cannot reconcile them with this false narrative he’s bought into.

This attack on Churchill for saying things that were not politically correct, is as shameless as the typical line that “The Founders were slave owners and Indian killers!”. It ignores socio-historical context, as well as the experiences that shaped figures of history.

Nationalism and globalism are on a collision course, but in reality this is just capitalism and communism fighting the wars of yesteryear on a different playing field. As always the battle is between old liberties and new tyrannies. Globalism of course has the advantage of techonology and economics that are intrinsically connected globally now, with the only way of reversal being some kind of disaster.

However, I’m casting my lot with nationalism to be the victor for the same reason I am a conservative. It is the correct order of things. So what if a Tajik farmer can call his nephew in San Francisco on a cell phone? At the end of the day, he’s willing to shed his blood for the common bonds of his people if they’re threatened. These bonds are cultural, religious, political, and in many cases ethnic, and they are as binding as DNA.
History shows us when these bonds are frayed or dissolved, the society does not blossom into some globally plugged in utopia. It collapses in ruin. You need look no further than the state of the European Union. Britain today? Give me a break.

This website is in Greek, but it contains a poll of Athens (I believe for the big municipal race coming up soon), and it shows Ilias Kasidiaris running away with 55.5% of the vote. If you are not aware who Kasidiaris is, he briefly made headlines for slapping a communist MP on live T.V. in Greece. A member of the hardcore nationalist group Golden Dawn, many of whom were jailed recently on domestic terrorism charges, Kasidiaris seems poised to run away with the election despite the fact that his views are far outside the mainstream of Greek politics. Why? Because Athens has become a slum overrun with Turkish immigrants, the promises of socialist leaders from both sides of Greece’s ‘left and further left’ aisle, have come crashing down, and most Greeks are now hostile to the encroachment upon Greek sovereignty by the European Union.

The author makes a good point mentioning the rise of Russia, in which nationalistic politics are a boon for any rising politico, but also China. While officially communist for reasons of bureaucratic hegemony, the country’s capitalist turn is unmistakable, and Xi Jinping’s recent playing down of Mao Zedong indicates the leaders of the country are trying to distance themselves from the globalist message of communism, and toward the furor of nationalistic sentiment which explains the bellicose rhetoric over the Senkaku islands. Rather than having a ‘joining together of global lands’ theme, it has an unmistakably ‘China must crush Japan’ message.

Globalism as an ideal is pursued today only by a few nations. The USA under the Obama regime is one of them, and the fading, dithering, militarily sterile countries of North-West Europe provide the crumbly base of this left wing dessert. The only possible backup may come from countries like Mexico and perhaps Canada, but Australia’s recent conservative turn has left them alone to ‘stand by their man’ as it were.

I will rejoice if I live long enough to see globalism choke and finally die.

I guess it's going to take a wholesale transformation of America from middle class neighborhoods to third world slums in order for people to wake up and oppose liberal internationalism. We're halfway there already (with the transformation part), but the waking up half of the deal can use some work.
