“What GAINS?”
SHHHH!
We’re still pretending we did something there. Haven’t you seen our gains in Iraq, where bombings still regularly kill dozens of people?
I sympathize with any family that has lost loved ones in these phony wars, or must help/support those incapacitated in them. After politicians threw away the war in Vietnam, we were told that wouldn’t happen again; we retreated from Iraq at midnight to avoid comparisons to the 1975 footage of the evacuation of Saigon. Expect the same shortly in Afghanistan...
I deduced you are leaving that hell hole. I daresay you will have many years of normal living ahead and will regale those near you with accounts of your stay there.
Good luck to you!
It was due to the battle of Kandahar 1st September 1880, that the honour was bestowed on Earl, then Baron Roberts. Baron Roberts of Kandahar.
I did not check and it was Herbert, Lord Kitchener that had the honour bestowed as Kitchener of Khartoum in the African Sudan. He tried to rescue General Gordon. This about the same time period. A simply inexcusable mistake on my part.
Roberts defeated the Ayub Khan with losses of about a 100 men. A 1000 men said to have been killed by the British.
