Loren Nancarrow, 60, a longtime San Diego TV journalist, died Saturday night, according to his employer and a family posting on his Facebook page.
The posting said that our husband, father, friend and hero passed away about 6:30 p.m. surrounded by his family. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in February.
Nancarrow, a weather forecaster, author and environmentalist, worked for Fox 5 news and was seen on other news stations over a 30-year career.
He meant the world to everybody at Fox 5, as a colleague and as a person, said Rich Goldner, station news director. He was extremely energetic in every facet of his life. We will miss him.
Nancarrow and his wife, Susie, lived in Solana Beach.
Nancarrow started a blog earlier in the year and, after his diagnosis, posted, The reason I havent been in my anchor chair for the past few weeks is because I have brain cancer. The doctors tell me I have between 1 and 3 years to live. So boo-hoo, poor me.
Despite the dire predictions, Nancarrow said he wanted to make his time count by helping others.
I have a great family support unit. Ive got insurance and a job to go back to. So many people lack one or all of those things, and that really bums me out, Nancarrow said. The big lesson in this is you need to help other people, and I havent done enough of that.
Many supporters and fans of his journalist work posted comments on his blog, saying he was an inspiration to them. They expressed shock and dismay at his passing Saturday night, and offered prayers and condolences to his family, which includes two daughters and a son.

Rest in peace.
I live in San Diego and don’t recognize him.
Sounds like a pretty blessed guy to me.
Nope, I don’t recognize him.
RIP. Cancer bleeping sucks.
I lived most of my life in San Diego County or southern Orange County and he was a fixture on the news. Since I moved away, I didn’t know he had cancer so this is shocking, sad news. He did seem like a nice man.
Very sad. I was surprised when it was reported that he had cancer. RIP
He was one of the good guys. Just diagnosed in February. Sad news for many.
