New immigration laws split America in two

It may come next week or maybe six months from now, but House Republicans will decisively determine whether to kill immigration reform or make a real attempt at passing it. No one would be surprised if Speaker John Boehner chose the former option.

But the longer Boehner takes to decide, the more ground he cedes to states dominated by single party politics and eager to craft immigration laws in the face of a crippled Congress.

Congressional inaction has left millions of families increasingly living in two parallel universes. Republican-run states turn cops into border patrol agents and cut undocumented immigrants off from housing, school, employment, and private charities. But in states dominated by Democrats, the same immigrants are gaining access to drivers’ licenses, better wages and college educations for their children.

Just three years ago, Republican statehouse victories prompted a wave of efforts by conservative legislatures to expel their immigrant populations. Led by Arizona, governors signed laws aimed at making daily life for the undocumented especially difficult.

Note here...In Sacramento, one such case ended up becoming a major statewide story. Juana Reyes, known locally as “the tamale lady,” ran a food cart near Wal Mart. She was arrested while working and charged with trespassing. Despite no prior criminal history, she was held for days at ICE’s request while her two children, both US citizens, were taken in by Child Protective Services..........<..from previous article about Juana..Juana Reyes says she typically prepares three different types of tamales, but that the pollo ones are her favorite. She likes the flavor when the chilies mix with the chicken, she explains, before handing over a bag of five freshly made snacks.

For more than two years, Reyes prepared and sold her tamales outside of a Walmart on Florin Road in south Sacramento. This was how she covered her $750-a-month rent—she made them twice a week, a process that takes a little more than two hours, then vended them for $1 each from her car in the Walmart parking lot. On a good day, she’d maybe earn 20 bucks.

“I am fighting and selling tamales to get my family ahead,” Reyes explained to SN&R.

But on a Thursday morning last month, June 28, a sheriff’s deputy pulled up to Reyes’ car and told her she could no longer sell her eats outside of the mega-chain.

Reyes was confused. She’d sold tamales there for so long, that even Walmart employees, according to her attorney, would come outside to buy them. But Reyes didn’t want any trouble, so she and her 7-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son drove off to another south Sacramento shopping mall.

There were few customers elsewhere, though, so Reyes and her kids returned after an hour to the Walmart. She’d seen a handful of other “tamale ladies” selling eats in the lot at this time. Was it OK to return? It must have been, she decided. So she got back to dishing out tamales and making ends meet.

“And then, a deputy grabs her hands and starts to cuff them,” explained Reyes’ attorney’s assistant Hugo Vera.

But before the deputy could click the handcuffs, he saw Reyes’ two children in the car. This caused him to pause, before finally placing Reyes and her kids in his patrol cruiser. For a half an hour.

The deputy ended up citing Reyes for trespassing, a minor misdemeanor in Sacramento County. According to Vera, most of the time this results in a proverbial slap on the wrist. Hardly ever a trip to the downtown main jail.

Or a deportation.

“Normally, they’d just say ‘Go away,’” Vera explained of what a deputy might typically do in a similar situation, such as, say, a skateboarder loitering on the premises.

But “go away” wasn’t Reyes’ fate. She’d lost her identification two weeks earlier, she told the deputy, who placed her under arrest. Meanwhile, Child Protective Services arrived at the Walmart to take custody of her children—this despite the fact that a handful of Reyes’ family and neighbors had converged on the scene, pleading to take the kids.........http://www.newsreview.com/sacramento/deporting-the-tamale-lady/content?oid=6861082......selling food without health inspections, no venders licenses,etc,etc.. and comment from link...How can she afford to live if she is making only $20 per day and pays $750 for rent alone?

Many Mexicans do not want to be US citizens, but citizens in a new country called Aztlan, where they would be in charge. Have the Democrats ever seriously did the electoral math on losing California out of the union?

Do you think Boehner is stupid enough to push for amnesty right before the 2014 elections?

They also barbecue live kittens, strangle baby seals with piano wire, denied global warming for years and are now denying global cooling. They are simply iggerant.

Wonder if she had a license to run a food vending cart and yeah, you need permission to be in someone’s parking lot.

Wrong! The illegal entry into this country by millions is what's causing families to live "in two parallel universes."

Wanna fix the problem? GO BACK FROM WHENCE YOU CAME!

Remember that this refusal was ever-present in Bush's tenure — it is not a Democrat v. Republican thing.
(Heck, given the Republican-party's refusal to do pursue Fast & Furious, Benghazi, IRS-targeting, NSA-Spying, all sorts of fraud, and its general willingness to roll-over on any issue… given all that, is it fair to call them separate parties?)

Forgive me, but I feel little sympathy for Juana Reyes. Americans and legal immigrants obey the laws of this land. She broke the law to come here, and she broke the law to run her unlicensed business. That doesn’t mean I support all the rules and regulations that restrict businesses, BTW, but if we are going to have them, illegal aliens don’t deserve a free pass.

As for her citizen children, they shouldn’t be citizens in the first place (assuming they’re anchor babies), and Juana Reyes can raise them in her homeland if she wants. What a ridiculous thing, that someone can break into this country, birth a baby, and create a new US citizen. It’s pretty clear illegal aliens are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and do not deserve ANY award or consideration, like birthing citizen babies, for gate crashing into this country.

I realize that some sort of status legalization, path to citizenship, is inevitable and even desirable; however, before any of that should be attempted the Congress must pass a border security legislation. First, secure the borders, then in a year of two, pass status legalization as separate legislation.
