A survey of abortion clinics in the United States has concluded that a record number of 87 surgical abortion clinics closed in 2013.
The survey, conducted by pro-life organization Operation Rescue, found that the total number of surgical abortion clinics remaining in the United States is now 582, a twelve percent decrease in surgical abortion clinics in 2013 alone, and a 73 percent drop from a 1991 high of 2,176.
According to Operation Rescue, of the 87 clinics that discontinued surgical abortions, 81 are permanently closed, while six stopped performing surgical abortions but continued the sale of abortion-inducing drugs. The data does not include the eleven abortion clinics that were temporarily closed this year, but later reopened.
The number of clinics that only perform abortion via drugs remained fairly constant at 176, with six documented closures.
Texas is the state with the most closures of surgical abortion clinics a total of eleven following the passage of an abortion law earlier in the year. New abortion clinic safety regulations accounted for closures in Pennsylvania and Maryland as well.
These numbers show that the pro-life movement is gaining ground and that the abortion industry is collapsing mostly due to its own negligence and greed, which has been exposed by their unwillingness and inability to comply with even the most rudimentary safety standards, said Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue.

It is not so easy to keep a baby-killing center open when they have to meet minimum standards for health, safety and cleanliness!
This is great news.
And, yes, it’s always been stunnign to know that the corner barber shop all along had tougher sanitation standards than abortion clinics.
Alright then now lets close the rest of the baby killing factories down..
I hope ever last one of these so called doctors that kill babies have to look everyone of those precious angels in the eye and then these same doctors are sent straight to hell along with the person that had the abortion..
This is great news to start the new year out with.
Here’s hoping for an even 100 in 2014.
It’s not really great news when anyone can walk into any Target/Walmart and buy Plan B which is now available on the shelf. But it’s a good start.
Good news but won’t the order from sebellius that all of our insurance policies offer the morning after pill insure even more abortions?
That’s the thing that pisses me off. Why are they closed? Because the new laws insisted that a dr be present at the facility? Because inspections and sanitation was now being regulated?
*This* is what the pro-life crowd was having a fit about?
I thought they wanted all abortions to be clean medical procedures. Why are they upset when we actually insist that they are really CLEAN MEDICAL procedures?
We are NOT being unreasonable here. The fact that so many of these facilities are being shut down because they cannot comply with the basic regulations that we have in a dentist’s office or a vet clinic says something profound.
