The left has long sought to nationalize government, which means a subordination of the states. In the meantime, liberals aren't blind to the advantages red states enjoy over blue states, in terms of siphoning off blue states' productive citizens and enterprises. Liberals see where many businesses choose to relocate. They appreciate that red states are often more affordable to Americans.
Critical to the nation's ongoing experiments in democracy is the imperative to roll back intrusive -- and often coercive -- national government. Washington is an informal ally of blue states, like Maryland, at the expense of red states, via legislation, court rulings, or executive fiat. What Washington can't annex from states outright, it uses taxpayers' dollars to leverage compliance with federal rules and regulations.
The Obama presidency has been largely an attempt by the left to reenergize and reassert national government at the expense of true federalism. President Obama is the "anti-Reagan." The left wants leftism regnant in every state and locality and is using a bolder national government to impose itself.
But the left's error may be in thinking that conservative Americans will eventually go quietly into the good night, permitting the left to work its will. Big fights loom if the left continues to try to ram its agendas down the throats of red state Americans (ObamaCare is a first critical battle). There's now a long history of leftism in America. The right's rejection of leftism is grounded in the left's demonstrated failures and in cultural and societal constructs that conservative Americans view as wrong-headed and deficient. The lines have been drawn and set.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that jobs and businesses will gravitate to where costs are lower. That means states where there is right to work and where there are no or low state income taxes.
There are really only a small handful of “blue states”.
As a native Texan, I would love to see a separate country made up of true patriots and believers. Now it begins. . .
Most of Illinois would love to divide itself from Chicago, for example.
If that country forms, I would guess they would have a huge economic boom as productive Americans move there and their much smaller proportion of parasites moves out. Those willing to work would have jobs, and the lower taxes would allow more parents who prefer raising their kids full time to choose to stay home and live on one income.
Red is Communist/Fascist, it always has been and always will be. Time to stop going by the Orwellian color newspeak switcheroo.

Uh, I’ll believe it when I see it. I wish it were true, but despite all the wailing and gnashing of teeth, it just keeps slipping further and further away every day.

Urbanization goes hand-in-hand with the Blue-ward march of many localities. Until urbanization is reversed for practical reasons (increased crime, higher costs, greater hassles, etc.) the march of the Leftists will continue forward. The collapse of the cities should be encouraged.
If that country forms, it would have militarily enforced borders.
Some people would be allowed in.
Others not.
Status in the previous political alignment largely irrelevant.

Agree with you. Most Americans, including many conservatives, won’t get off the couch or turn off the TV for even a few hours to participate in a Tea Party event much less engage in big fights against the Left. Lots of idle talk by the masses but little if any meaningful action by them is likely. Its too easy to just float down the river.
Unfortunately they comprise a large chunk of electoral votes, where Dems don't have to spend a nickle on national campaigns. Ca+Il+NY=107 EV. That's 40% of the winning number before things even begin.
The 17th Amendment nationalized the government already and the government cannot be unnationalized without repeal of the 17th.
