Skip to comments.Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson shows what's wrong with conservatives

We already knew he was racist and homophobic. Now it emerges that he thinks girls should marry at 15 or 16.
Know what? If you had told me, a month ago, that the Christian Right would have a strong reaction to a bearded religious zealot in a headscarf urging men to take child brides, I'd have believed that. And I would have believed that the man's family would go on Fox News to defend him, but I would have assumed they were doing it from a bunker somewhere, with voice filters and behind a screen not in the studio on New Year's Eve.
Yet this is how things are playing out in the aftermath of footage showing Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson advising young men to "marry girls when they are about 15 or 16", after, of course, "making sure she can cook a meal". "You need to eat some meals that she cooks. Check that out," he said to an audience at a Christian retreat in 2009. "Make sure she carries her Bible," he added. "That will save you trouble down the road."
I suppose it depends on how you define "trouble" Robertson implies that it has to do with the little lady (or, better said, barely pubescent child) wanting some kind of monetary compensation for her labor ("you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket"). It also depends on which version of the Bible she has. Better hope she skips the part where it says, "there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ!" Actually, there a bunch of sections you should edit out.

And we cannot allow people to think wrong thoughts.
We already know Ana Marie Cox is an idiot, so I don’t see why I should read her article.
Gee Anna Marie you couldn’t find anything better to write about?
Why don’t you try getting angry over the teens that Planned parenthood do abortions for when they are 14 and they lie to keep the father out of jail.
The Guardian makes the New York Times look like US News & World Report in the old days. If you’re over 45, you’ll get the reference.
My Uncle was 16 and my Aunt 14 when they were married about 70 years ago.
The Guardian is my favorite go-to for crazy, left-wing diatribes! They get the worst writers for their CiF. I wish more freepers would post from that hysterical rag.
Wonder of the author would criticize gay men having sex with 25 or 16 year old boys?
I believe the UK lowered their age of consent to 14 recently to make life easier for gay pedophiles and Muslim old goats, so what’s this beotch talking about?
Try and catch this guy's "musings" sometimes. You'll have a hard time believing it isn't satire.
What will be the outcome of mischaracterizing and attacking tens of millions of Americans basic moral belief? Leftist like to think they are smart but they don’t know the difference between tactic and strategy.
It has been well established that Phil Robertson as joking when he says this!
What an ill-informed writer....... as usual!
Did he really say that? No wonder the gays think he's latent -- he shares their distaste for women.
70% illegitimacy, racist preference programs, the welfare state, barack obama, eric holder, kagan and sotomayor, trillion dollar deficits, Islam asskissing, 1 million + abortions/yr, crapped out schools and neighborhoods, AIDS, laziness, selfishness, broken marriages, NAMBLA, GLAAD, naacp, communists, marxists, hate filled name calling, atheists, bigots, hypocrites, the Kennedys, the Clintons . . .
Yeah, we all know what’s wrong with liberals
And yet it’s perfectly fine for temporary mooseSlime marriages to 6 year olds, what with their culture being superior like the Nazis.
Cox was married to Chris Lehmann, formerly of The Washington Post, New York, and Congressional Quarterly. They divorced sometime in 2011. In 2009 on an Amtrak train from New York to Washington Cox had a severe allergic reaction after eating a lentil salad. Fox News host Greta Van Susteren saw her choking and came to her aid with Benadryl, after which Cox recovered. Cox later personally thanked Van Susteren for saving her life.
Only had to go 1 sentence before you realize she is a bigoted Marxist.
Pray America is Waking Up
No, after 4 years of being trained by their teachers, peers, and media, it takes a really rare lady to reject that and select honest, chaste, ladylike behavior.
It wasn’t always so. American culture seems to be toxic, but I home school my kids, and try to protect them from the
‘sex in the city’ kind of shows.
Ya, I’ve heard that Muslims allow for temporary marriages. And they do this, so they can consummate a marriage which begins and ends the same day. It’s basically prostitution but under a different name.
Nice try, freakshow.
Hey gang, this is The Guardian. Do you seriously expect them to approve of anything traditionally conservative?
Wives, be subordinate to your husbands,My folks were married very young (my mother never worked one day outside of the household) and they were together till death did they part.
as is proper in the Lord.
Husbands, love your wives,
and avoid any bitterness toward them... -COL 3:12-21
What really bothers this Cox woman is the fact that Phil Robertson didn't have his TV show cancelled and wasn't instantly ostracized (like Paula Deen) because he quoted scripture that calls homosexual behavior a sin and said that he didn't hear blacks he worked with (in the cotton fields) complaining about white oppression in the pre-Civil Rights era.
The left is so used to being able to destroy any public figure that dares to take a view that the left doesn't like. The ease with which Phil Robertson handled the GLAAD brouhaha and gained much public support (even from those who don't share his views on homosexuality) has really worried the left, who assumed that simply calling someone 'racist', 'homophobe' or just plain 'stupid' (this Cox person does all three in her little screed) is enough to destroy the target's credibility and possibly their career. Phil Robertson and 'Duck Dynasty' changed all that and it was certainly about time.
So, Ana....abortions for 14 year old girls are A-OK, though, right? Can she not see the idiocy of this? And, how girls/women are used? What an idgit.
FR = no editing after you click post.
In 2009 Cox also became a contributing editor for Playboy
Libs consider Playboy to be exploitation of women.
I stopped reading past this..
“We already knew he was racist and homophobic. Now it emerges that he thinks girls should marry at 15 or 16.”
I have yet to see any proof that Phil is racist or homophobic. When Phil grew up, it was not unusual for women to marry at that age.
The rest of the “hit piece” I am sure was more lies and deception.
Unless they are pulling a paycheck.
I’ll bet John the Baptist looked a little like Phil Robertson. By the way . . what happened to the ascetic John the Baptist?
“We already knew he was racist and homophobic”
These days, when a lib pronounces someone as “racist and homophobic”, that’s kind of a death fatwa.
Consequences are expected to follow, are they not? So head for those Louisiana swamps and mete out some peoples’ justice, you “progressives”. Like right now.
Until the likes of Hefner (Playboy) and Flynt (Hustler) started giving gobs of money to RAT/Liberal candidates and causes.
Now skin magazines, along with the hard-core stuff, is rationalized by the Left as being liberating for women as they are making their own decisions about their bodies.
Ana Marie Cox is a self loathing jew in the mold of Bernadine Dohrn and Squeaky Fromme. That’s all you need to know.
We are thinking about heading down to West Monroe as part of our winter “WTF are we doing in MN” escape..
Texas/Louisiana and the red states between here and there are where we will be spending our money.
I plan on bringing home some duck commander stuff ;)
>> These days, when a lib pronounces someone as racist and homophobic, thats kind of a death fatwa.
Agreed. The charge of course is fallacious.
Compare that vile abortionist with the radiant beauty of our next President, Governor Sarah Heath Palin.
I would consider it a compliment.
With Muslims taking over the UK and marrying child brides, only now is the Guardian screaming.
Besides gay people get married for love. Why not pedophiles?
I would consider it a compliment.
Here are the terms that I now wear as a badge of honor when a commie intends them as a pejorative.
I was called a scab by some Big Labor goons when I broke through their picket lines to work. Then I lead the crusade for decertification and busted their union.
Dumb and pregnant at 16 -OR- dumb and pregnant at 32... I don’t see the difference.. same result..
Last time I checked, Phil Robertson was not a spokesman for the Conservative movement, nor did the Conservative movement endorse his views.
While some of his views are similar to mine, some aren’t.
The Liberals are getting scared of the Dynasty backlash, and and frankly, are starting to make fools of themselves.
She made that perfectly clear to the reader before she finished writing the first sentence.
Good work (ya scumbag)! ;^)
Traveling back in time to the 50’s is like the twilight zone for today’s younger generation.
Oh, I love this guy! What a kook! As a Guardian watcher, I do think that anyone can solicite an article to CiF and get printed - as long as it shows a high level of ignorance and hatred towards America. Some of these “editorials” are beyond absurd. Glad to know I’m not the only one who follows this ridiculous newspaper.
They are out to ruin him.
And I would venture to guess that Anna Marie likes anything but Cox.
Ana Marie Cox from Wikipedia:
She began graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley
That’s all I need to know.
