The genesis of my comment came from getting to know several Turkish immigrants, so there may be some group attribution error. The individuals did not complain, but took a dim view of all of the above: Islam, the Arab world, U.S. foreign policy, Russia, you name it, even though they are titularly Muslim. I discussed Israel with a couple of them. There was no animus.
Just like the Muslim population in Pakistan, the people of Turkey have been fed excuses, scapegoating and conspiracy theories blaming everyone outside Turkey for Turkey’s problems for decades, by the power elites in Turkey, to deflect blame for any of Turkey’s conditions away from them. That persons from Turkey reflect that brainwashing does not suprise me. That any westerner lets them get away with it does surprise me.
