Take a country that was trying to be a democracy by among other things, suppressing Islam (Ataturk), then make it a pawn between the Soviet Union and the U.S., causing multiple coups, then unleash Islam again, then pretend it is a democracy and move it toward full EU membership, then make it a staging area for CIA and militant Islamic covert operations, then make it a pawn between Iran and the U.S., then criticize it when it turns out to be a corrupt theocratic dictatorship rather than a democracy.
Is that about right?
Turkey has become a repository for the social and political dysfunctions of the rest of the world. They can't seem to catch a break.
Sounds about right. We have a defense treaty with Turkey and not with Israel. Somewhere down the line, could we be against Israel in a war?
Never mind, there’s no way that could ever happen. Just like we would never be allied with al Queda. Crazy times.
