Ex-Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe has said he is pretty confident that he was cut from the team last May for being an out-spoken advocate for same-sex marriage.
Kluwe has also accused Vikings coach Mike Priefer - currently a contender to become the teams next head coach - of being a bigot who repeatedly used homophobic language in front him and told him he would wind up burning in hell with the gays.
The player, whose playing stats were above average, believes his problems began in the fall of 2012 when he started to speak out against the Minnesota Gay Marriage Amendment which attempted to have marriage defined as only a union of one man and one woman.

No, he was fired for being an overpaid, average punter. They could get the same numbers for 1/3 the price.
He was fired for being old, expensive, and mediocre. With all the pink gloves and the touchy feely rules being implemented his stance on homosexual sex probably bought him another year in the league.
In a world of salary cap and mandated lowball rookie salaries, any veteran utility player is probably overpriced.
He’s a punter. They’re pretty disposable. I think his opinion of himself is a bit exalted.
I saw him against the Gmen on a calm day and he still sucked.
but what’s his beard look like?
I’m not a football fan but isn’t kicking all a punter does?
It’s a great career. Not as good as POTUS, but a good career nonetheless.
Sometimes they hold on field goal and extra point attempts.... but yes. They punt. And that is all.
Just seems like a baseball pitcher who throws one pitch and hits the showers. Even relievers and closing pitchers are expected to pitch at least 1 full inning.
Some of them hold the ball for field goal attempts, LOL.
That and the guy that replaced him is an extraordinary punter
This story doesn’t justify the ink used to print it. Lemme get this straight: Punter gets cut during the off-season after they draft another punter, and homeboy decides to SLANDER a head coach out of mere spite. That’s what it sounds like, especially since NO OTHER PLAYER is backing his claim.
That’s bad enough, but then we have Fox Sports decide to simple echo a story from a tabloid without checking facts - not that it would make a difference anyway.
Hey Fox Sports, try sticking to sports.
But let’s look at the big picture on this since it seems Team Sodomite wants to destroy the NFL any way they can:
Let’s allow women to play in the NFL and have then change in the same locker room as the men. Anyone see anything wrong with that picture? Well, its the same has having a sodomite in the locker room as well. And forgive me for being a bit stereotypical, but it seems to often many of these ‘types’ have short tempers, seem to fly off the handle, and when even slightly provoked, have tendencies to inflict harm/revenge with no regard for themselves or others. Something the NFL have been fining players for these days.
Oh, and before anyone calls me names, I can site numerous public cases of this.
So, if you want to be publicly gay, and act accordingly, don’t be surprised that the NFL doesn’t want you anywhere NEAR a locker room with other players.
jimjohn - out.
Yeah, if you can be fired for not supporting gay marriage, then you can be fired for supporting gay marriage. It works both ways!
Maybe the Packers can pick him up.

The Vikings paid you to kick, not to be a spokesperson for perverts. You are now free to speak on behalf of the perverts. You should be happy..
The coach probably told him he “sucked” and he interpreted that as a homosexual slur.
Kluwe’s career go Kabluwe.
Most teams also use them as holders for field goal and extra point attempts.
Did you ever wonder why punters and backup quarterbacks are usually the holders on field goals and extra points? It's because coaches like to have their long-snappers, holders and kickers practice together on the sidelines as much as possible. Quarterbacks and punters are used as holders because they're used to taking long snaps, and backup QBs are preferred over starting QBs because the starting QB is on the field for much of the game and therefore can't practice on the sidelines as much as the backup can.
Probably wouldn’t have considered “sucked” as a slur but praise for a “job” well done.
I’d heard that too. I would use 2nd string QBs as holders because they could pass if you wanted to fake or if things broke down. Watching punters trying to run or pass is just sad.
Of course it didn’t work too well with Tony Romo a few years back.
