-snip-

During the last home game against Chicago, 15 fans were arrested and 68 were ejected.

The police have a lot of eyes and ears in the stadium and some will be in disguise.

They'll be wearing New Orleans Saints jerseys and hats. So, be careful who you pick on.

I wonder what the ACLU will do? Anyone remember when undercover cops posed as grannies to catch muggers?

I was at a Philadelphia Flyers game - in Buffalo, and some Flyers fans were dropping F-bombs on a 70 year-old woman who was wearing a Sabres Jersey of a player they seemed not to like.

“Unruly, rude, threatening behavior, it’s simply not going to be tolerated and you’re going to be ejected from the stadium or arrested,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan told Action News Thursday.”

So much for the city of brotherly love.

Actually, I don't (gettin' old), but around here the cops only decoy as pedestrians or kids askin' for liquor.

Revenue, don't ya know?

Don’t know about the new stadium but the old one in Philly had a police substation and courtroom to arrest and try all the “ fans” ....

There are classless people in practically every large group...all one has to do is search and there are plenty of stories out there from all across the sports world...search the Dodgers for some doozies.

I would dare say though, that hands down, the Europeans have the trophy for worst behavior...and before anyone goes off on a tangent about the Santa Claus story...and No, I wasn’t there!

Philly fans get a bum rap in frequent mentions about that 1968 day when they hurled snowballs at Santa Claus. Not that they didn’t do it.

“No event has been used to tar-and-feather Philadelphia fans as much. And no event has been as exaggerated, misconstrued and inaccurately recalled,” they write.

Macnow, a talk show host along with Gargano on WIP radio in Philadelphia, says it’s all about the circumstances.

“Everybody just thinks that people pelted Santa with snow balls for no reason other than we’re mean people,” he says.

A crowd of 54,535 showed in a snowstorm that Dec. 15 day at Franklin Field to watch the last-place Eagles finished off a 2-12 season with a loss to Minnesota.

The book says that team owner Jerry Wolman had “dismantled a strong, proud franchise” and hired Joe Kuharich as coach and general manager. Kuharich, who inspired the “Joe Must Go” slogan, traded Hall of Fame quarterback Sonny Jurgensen to Washington for Norm Snead.

At halftime, there was supposed to be a Christmas pageant. Then there was too much snow and muck for a float to parade around the field. Instead, according to the book, a 19-year-old fan wearing a Santa suit and fake beard in the stands was recruited to jog onto the field between two columns of cheerleaders.

The authors don’t deny boos were heard and that snowballs were tossed. Are they saying Santa had it coming?

“Santa had it coming for a different reason actually,” says Macnow. “Santa was a surrogate that day for Joe Kuharich and Jerry Wolman and Norm Snead. The poor kid just happened to be representing the frustrations

If you wear opposing team gear at a St. Louis game you will have people sit down and ask where you are from and welcome you to the city. You may get some light hearted teasing, but I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of a fight here over any sports team rivalry. Well, maybe in the old days with the Blues and Blackhawks but that’s hockey :)

I can attest to that. I was in town for bidness and caught a Mets game. Had the people sitting next to us offer to buy us beer, even after I told them I was from NY. Great fans in a great sports town, IMO.

Nonsense. Bad fan behavior happens everywhere. A couple of notable incidents in Philly get repeated ad nauseum, and the template sticks. Lazy reporters repeat it, and the lazy public buys into it.
There have been fans killed recently in other cities, but that doesn't get the same mileage as some bum dressed as Santa Claus 40+ years ago. Philly fans didn't boo Santa Claus because Santa Claus doesn't actually exist.

Also, the worst fans sold out their playoff game in 3 minutes whereas the holy Packer fans still had seats available up until yesterday I believe.

HA!!!!! Good one.

No doubt there are some good fans. I know some. It is the lousy ones that are in force that are disgusting.

I’ve been there. Experienced it firsthand. It goes back at least 50 years.

Just three years ago, there was this...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5098407

“According to an account in the Philadelphia Daily News, Clemmens and his friend were asked by the 15-year-old daughter of Michael Vangelo, an off-duty Easton police captain, to stop cursing and spitting. A short while later, Vangelo said, it started again.

“One guy started spitting ... first it landed on the back of my daughter’s chair. Then it landed on her hooded sweatshirt,” Vangelo said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

After Vangelo reported the incident to stadium officials, Clemmens’ friend was led out of the stadium. At that point, Vangelo said Clemmens said he would be sick and “put two fingers down his throat.”

He then “leaned forward and started vomiting on us,” Vangelo said, according to the Daily News.

“It was the most vile, disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. He has two fingers down his throat, he lunges forward and vomits on myself and my 11-year-old.”

Vangelo said he tried to push his children safely behind him, and Clemmens punched him in the face. Four or five fans in the next section rushed to help, Vangelo said. They held him until police arrived — someone punching Clemmens in the face as he tried to break free — and an officer was also hit with vomit, Vanore said.

It’s just a sport, I see that behavior, someone is going to end up having a very bad day, especially picking on elderly and children, not to mention women, that goes without saying.

I remember the story. That was one man out of over 40,000. What’s the percentage? And he was from Jersey anyway. Haha. I believe there actual gang members in the stands at Dodgers games. Should we impugn everyone? And what about Oakland? It looks like Mad Max there.

“I remember the story. That was one man out of over 40,000. What’s the percentage? And he was from Jersey anyway.”

You are offering the following argument:

Only 1 Philadelphia fan out of 40,000 throws up on little girls, so 39,000 Philadelphia fans are great.

As it turns out, puking isn’t the only Philadelphia bad behavior. It was just significantly bad enough to make the news. Still, it really happened.

NJ: I think from Central NJ down to S. NJ are Philadelphia fans. They do go to games sometimes and have a higher percentage likelihood of being nice. In this case, not so.

Hi ampu, hope you had a wonderful holiday and wishing you a Happy New Year.

"Four or five fans in the next section rushed to help."

Sounds like it was 4-5 vs. 1. Good to see that this jerk was outnumbered by better mannered fans.
