For the first time in the United States, a citizen who has legally registered a gun will have to submit to a renewal process. The consequences of not knowing about this new law or missing the specific 60-day window are dire.

Starting on Jan. 2, every single D.C. resident who has registered a firearm since 1976 must go to police headquarters to pay a $48 fee and be photographed and fingerprinted.

The Metropolitan Police Department estimates there are at least 30,000 registered gun owners.

If the registrant does not go to the police station within three months after a set time frame, the registration is revoked...

Like the mention of the 2nd amendment tax.

Why isn’t providing ID to exercise one’s right not a burden as it is when voting?

I stand corrected. It doesn't “require” per se. But two new executive fiat rulings this week “encourage” doctors to report gun ownership and mental health to the feds. Sebelius is weakening HIPPA laws to further encourage the practice. Haven't the NRA provisions to “protect” gun owners from Obamacare is pure farce. We all know how faithfully Obama upholds the law and the words “the secretary shall decide” pretty much guarantees that part of Obamacare will be ignored as well.

I hope these links post correctly:

This aspect of Obamacare will certainly be ignored
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/01/09/Backfire-Obamacare-Forbids-Gun-and-Ammo-Registration

Opening salvo to have Obamacare information reported to the NICS in violation of HIPPA laws
http://www.gunnews.com/obamacare-to-nics/

And now we have Holder basically gutting HIPAA laws to protect
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2014/01/03/obama-administrations-two-quiet-new-executive-actions-on-who-can-buy-a-gun/

I should have not used the word “require” but by the end of the year I do predict Obamacare will be used for a back door registration. Or, as Obama said, “under the radar.”

At least 200 Million, of the over 300 Million privately owned firearms in this country are not “registered” with any government agency.

If he’s stupid enough to attempt to demand “registration”, he will learn the meaning of “Tea Party”.

I have no doubt the NICS catalogs and records every single background check in violation of the law. Private transfers are the closest to free you can get.
