Op-Ed: Egypt is Threatened by Islamic Terror

Egypt’s new rulers are faced with a terror problem emanating from the Sinai Peninsula, with the emergence of radical jihad groups. The US and international community must support the Egyptian regime to prevent the radical Islamic groups from turning Egypt into the next Syria.

On December 24, 2013, deadly bombings hit Mansoura, in Egypt’s Nile Delta region, killing twelve and injuring 134, in Egypt’s worst terrorist attack since the July ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, an al-Qaeda-inspired Islamist group, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi vowed to hunt down the perpetrators of the explosion, saying the attack was aimed at obstructing a roadmap drawn up by the country’s interim regime following Morsi’s ouster. The final phase of the roadmap will begin next month when a referendum on the newly-drafted constitution takes place, to be followed by parliamentary and presidential elections. A cabinet spokesman blamed the blast on Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood, while el-Beblawi officially declared the group a terrorist organization.

Three main trends of terror activities can be observed in Egypt since the ouster of President Morsi. The first is Islamic terror in Sinai, which has become the main theater of confrontation between terror groups and the Egyptian armed forces. The second is the spillover of terror from Sinai to other parts of Egypt. The third is the increasing involvement of foreign groups al-Qaeda and Global Jihad in Egypt, and activity originating from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

Aw, just give them their own state and everything will be peachy-keen. John Kerry'll have a piece agreement nailed down in no time.

Aw, a few public crucifixions never hurt anyone. They’re just frustrated because Morsi was only President and not Caliph. C’mon. Give ‘em their very own Caliphate in the Sinai, right where all the natural gas is./s

Sounds like Egypt and Israel should cooperate in retaking the Gaza strip; and they should both watch out for Obama backing the terrorists and interfering in ways to weaken both states.

It would be nice, but won’t happen, even if the military government wanted to. The MB is down but not out. Cooperation between Israel and Egypt will be something they’d demagogue and use to gain support, so any joint task will have to be performed very obliquely.

This article really isn't anything new that wasn't already going on before Morsi was outed....they all knew the Sinai area ,and border, would escalate and prepared for that beforehand.

Further Israel and Egypt military leaders were already working together before, though they didn't broadcast it...and still don't to speak of.

Israel will do what they have to and Egypt too with the MB'S....their problem is to keep the International bimbos from interfering until they have accomplished what they're attempting to do. Just like in Syria with the terrorists groups...the only solution to stopping them is to take them out...otherwise they will continue on with their agenda.

Unfortunately, the bimbos are beside themselves right now that a dully elected demoncratic government was ousted by the military, and there’s no telling what stupid thing the bimbos will do next.

We know exactly what to expect...their tactics do not change nor will they cease as they have’t for centuries. The Muslim Brotherhood is at the top of all these terrorists groups one way or another....and they have just one agenda.
