Two New Executive Orders Will Change Who Can Buy Guns
Mashable ^ | January 3, 2014 | Colin Daileda

The White House issued two executive actions on Friday that aim to beef up background checks for would-be gun buyers and keep the weapons away from those at risk of harming themselves or others.

The first order, proposed by the Department of Justice, more clearly defines who cannot possess a handgun under federal law due to mental health issues. It is designed to clarify the language of the current law by providing better definitions for phrases like what it means to be "committed to a mental institution." This, in turn, will provide a more well-rounded picture of a potential buyer's mental health for the background check to determine whether a purchase should be allowed.

The second executive action concerns privacy laws associated with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. States have complained that individual privacy protections have made it difficult for them to report relevant mental health information to their respective background check systems, which they fear could lead to guns falling into dangerous hands. The proposed change would allow states to relay "limited" tidbits of information that they feel should be included in background checks. The executive order stresses that it will not prevent everyone with mental health concerns from buying guns, and will not require buyers to report "routine mental health care."

Too many Americans have been severely injured or lost their lives as a result of gun violence,"

Too many Americans have been severely injured or lost their lives as a result of gun violence," the order reads. "While the vast majority of Americans who experience a mental illness are not violent, in some cases when persons with a mental illness do not receive the treatment they need, the result can be tragedies such as homicide or suicide."

The debate over gun regulation in America has always been a hotly contested one, but it erupted in December 2012 following a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that left 27 dead, including 20 kids, six adults and the gunman. President Barack Obama called for extensive gun control measures, including expanded background checks, but Congress has not passed any legislation since the attack. In the text of the executive orders, the White House continues to urge Congress to consider further gun control measures.

"Passing common-sense gun safety legislation — including expanding background checks and making gun trafficking a federal crime — remains the most important step we can take to reduce gun violence," the order reads.

The continued abuse of the executive order by using it to implement law as an end-run around Congress instead as the means to order changes in procedure or policy within the Executive Branch. Barry's not the first to misuse the executive order, but he's the most brazen. The only ones who can stop this, Congress and the courts, are loath to do it, citing separation of powers, but really, given the current occupant of the White House, because they are afraid of being called racists.

Too many? Meaning "more than you think is acceptable" Barry, you lexical slob? I think the number of Americans being severely injured in terms of jobs and health insurance as a result of Obamacare is probably at least an order of magnitude greater than those injured or killed through the felonious use of firearms.

Most counties in the United States have only a few murders each year, if that. Most of the murders occur in a relatively small number of counties, the majority of them dominated by Democrat political machines, the majority of the murders being tied in one way or another to the illegal drug trade, created and maintained by the federal government.

The administration's own estimates are that over 100 million will lose their health insurance they were promised they could keep. Period. So where's the executive order limiting access to Obamacare, Barry? Where's your executive order limiting the Democrat Party's access to government, Barry, and to the horrendous damage they do to the nation through it?

In your executive order about access to guns, you were worried about mentally ill people, but the economically and politically insane, also congenital liars, were the ones that wrote and passed and altered at will and defended Obamacare.

I know they are complicit, that is why they deserve the punishment for treason.
This is the reason the second amendment is in the Constitution.

“Common-sense”. . .I am really tired of hearing the left bleat this phrase, like no contrary position is allowed, after all, if you are against “common-sense” solutions this means you are a full of nonsense and a loony needing to be locked up.

You know, locked up because you are nuts and therefore can’t own a firearm.

Common-sense my a$$!

Their solutions are anything but sensical nor common.

The Second Amendment is “in the Constitution” to afford “punishment” to those accused and or convicted of treason???

Is that what you are trying to say???

No. It’s not about punishment.
It’s about reigning in the abuse of power by tyrannical rule.

The GOP needs to wake up or get lost.

Raise your voice just a little bit in public and they’ll start screaming “Rage-aholic!”. The police will come and arrest you. It will become a part of your state record which will then, according to this new EO, will be passed on to the state.

In Post #64 you stated:

“I know they are complicit, that is why they deserve the punishment for treason.

This is the reason the second amendment is in the Constitution.”

Thats why I was curious and needed clarification on what you posted...

Now, before you get angry, let me advise you that I can dig it if you are not happy with the GOP’s efforts to protect our basic unalienable right to keep and bear arms as per the Second Amendment...

You probably feel threatened by the potential loss of your personal property and the means to protect yourself, not only from a criminal element, but from that tyrranical government (rule)...That’s fine, like I said, I can identify with that...

I am not excusing the GOP’s lack of intestinal fortitude on these basic issues, but I fail to see a reason why they need to wake up??? Their track record on a great variety of things we are passionate about has been lackluster for many reasons...

So what is the alternative??? I know you will not vote for a democrat, even if they might be A+ rated by the NRA...

If you are venting some frustration, thats cool...I’ve been there as well...Its just never condusive to do so in such a public forum making yourself an easy target for additional scrutiny from the very forces you are concerned about...

Just a suggestion...;-)

It is frustration but I am not the only one.

Between the lines in what I am reading here from you is that I need to conform and get in line, with the GOP that I don't trust anymore, and history shows that this attitude of getting in line has only resulted in more power over our freedom and an erosion of our liberty. It has gotten the point where they appear very involved in that erosion.

I'm one of many who has been taken for granted by the GOP but
Did vote for McSpam and for whats his name, the morman guy.

Those guys failed and the Congress has failed us too. I need tone down a bit for the sake of my wife though. Shes getting ticked at me because I can't watch the news or talk to someone without getting animated by my passion and jacking up my blood pressure. Perhaps you have not been personally effected by the changes in this country? I'm not mad at you and I hope.my shrillness is more understood now. This is just more clarification for you and a chance for more free expression while are still allowed to have it.

Absolutely not...Conformity with a failed political agenda is not an option, nor did I intend to imply that...

As long as people are honest with themselves about how they were fooled, and know they are not alone...

That is more than half the battle...that’s what I was looking to see from you...Third party, libertarian, whatever...Those paths are harder to wrap around in my opinion...And staying with a sinking ship, unless some big turnaround is made locally, state and nationally this election cycle...We will not see a big turnaround in the representation...

I have made a challenge to some people that they do their best to stay away from cable news, and other shrill-type information sources, and let their eyes and fingers do the walking in a few news sources linked in some of the information we have seen posted here and other conservative discussion websites...I believe you learn more, and make up your mind better with information coming from places like this than even FoxNews, regardless of their ratings...

If you wat straight news, no opinion, or other analysis, then FoxNews can give you that, but I am making a committment to stay away till at least after most of the primary season coming up...

Give it a try...You Blood Pressure, and other angst might be curbed and your wife may appreciate your opinion better if it doesn’t sound like it came straight from them anyway...

Look at it this way...At the end of the day...What do (and will you) you still have in your posession???

If anyone or anything starts maing that difficult, you will have plenty of time to make adjustments and cover your tracks...they do not have nearly enough people to track down every single one of us...

” - - - It will take a generation of thoughtful, effective leadership and legislation to cut the various Gordian Knots tying America to her socialist, big government programs. - - - “

Thanks for making my point: The RINO Establishment has been, is now, and forever will be a spineless relic that is incapable of protecting the US Constitution.

Commie Obama came in 1-2009, and by 12-24-2009 he had Nationalized one sixth of the US Economy.

Now, four months later, loyal RINO Establishment stalwarts such as y’all want to take “a generation” (20-25 years) to undo what Commie Obama did in eleven months.

What does it take for you Loyalist RINOs to draw a line in the sand?

As for concern about “loss of political capital” and other Leftstream Media manipulating tactics, when in the next 20 to 25 years would be a good time for y’all to consider to begin to commence thinking about draining the swamp full of Leftstream Media “alligators?”

There are more of us than there are of them, so grow a pair and FIGHT!

If you reply, remember this: Commie Obama is counting on never being held accountable for his violations of the US Constitution.

BTW, Boehner and McConnell have done their best to not hold Commie Obama accountable for 4 years.

Thus, support for the RINO Establishment is to continue to endorse the Boehner-McConnell protection from accountability plan for Commie Obama.
