Secret court approves three more months of NSA phone snooping

The secret court that oversees the nation’s intelligence activities renewed its approval of the National Security Agency’s telephone-records program on Friday, granting the government a new three-month window to collect data on all Americans’ phone calls.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper’s office announced the court’s ruling in a statement, though officials didn’t make the ruling itself public, saying it was going through declassification procedures.

The decision marks the 36th time the program has been approved by the secret Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

“It is the administration’s view, consistent with the recent holdings of the United States District Courts for the Southern District of New York and Southern District of California, as well as the findings of 15 judges of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court on 36 separate occasions over the past seven years, that the telephony metadata collection program is lawful,” Shawn Turner, spokesman for Mr. Clapper, said.

If the ruling comports dignity then why do the rulers remain SECRET...?

“A SUPER important person requires you to shop in the nude downtown today but I can’t tell you who he is...”

Oh really...?

The conservative right is the new counterculture. It’s the left who drool over big government, social programs, and wealth redistribution who are the “establishment”.

Yeah I’ve noticed that for some time. The liberals are really conservatives and vice versa. Let the Alinskyites chew on that for awhile...: )

1) Where in the Constitution does it state that this nation cannot defend itself? (It is NOT the “f-Constitution”. Men and women in this nation have, as you must know, for centuries fought and died to preserve this Document and the nation itself.)

2) You make the standard and unsupported premise that “our governmet is “spy(ing) on American citizens.” Please be specific on how and when and where this is occuring. Give some specific examples.

3) How would YOU carry out national security in a time of world terrorism with weapons of mass destruction?

4) Do you believe terrrorists who want to kill us all should be simply allowed to proceed do so? If you do, you seem to lack the most basic of survival traits.

I'll take a few thousand dead -- a few tens of thousands -- hell, a few hundreds of thousands -- over the complete ruination of everything out country stands for.

We sacrificed 400,000 souls in World War II, for what? To become that which we fought?

As does yours. You would sacrifice liberty gladly, merrily handing your captors the chains. You would squander liberty that 400,000+ men died for in World War II *alone*.

You facilitate tyranny. Small wonder you were a reporter. The ranks of journalism are thick with your kind.

“1) Where in the Constitution does it state that this nation cannot defend itself?”

A non-sequitur...and perhaps I should have said it is the f——d Constitution. The death those who fought for it was not in vain because it preserved freedom for a time. But that time of freedom has sadly passed.

“2) Please be specific on how and when and where this is occuring. Give some specific examples.”

You must be willfully blind. Just a sampler:
1) The mining and analysis of phone records of all Americans without a search warrant.
2) Forcing major ISPs and internet media outlets to allow direct access to private data such as emails and search history and then forcing these firms to deny that this has occurred (again, no search warrant)
3) Forcing data security firms such as RSA to create back doors in their supposed encryption systems and then forcing them to deny that they have done so (violation of Fifth Amendment)
4) intercept shipments of Apple products into the US to install espionage tools on them (criminal conversion and violation of Fifth Amendment)

“3) How would YOU carry out national security in a time of world terrorism with weapons of mass destruction?”

Let’s start with:
- Strict immigration policy
- Close monitoring of all persons fitting the terrorist profile, including wiretapping enabled by warrants in a legitimate court. Yes, this does mean “racial profiling”.
- Unabashed acknowledgement that radical Islam is the enemy.
- Ceasing of all “military” operations that involve using US taxpayer funds for building roads and hospitals for the ungrateful lands that we occupy
- Ruthlessness in pursuing the enemies of the American people
- No wars for “democracy” (e.g. US military operations in Libya to support Al Qaeda) or to promote an “Arab Spring”.

In other words, defend the interests of the US and its allies without getting involved in needless conflicts.

“4) Do you believe terrrorists who want to kill us all should be simply allowed to proceed do so? If you do, you seem to lack the most basic of survival traits.”

When did you stop beating your wife?

Nuke Mecca, Medina, Qom, Riyadh, and Tehran. That’s how.

No worries for another 500 years or so.

F*** this “secret court” BS.

Right on. I seem to remember someone once said” Is life so dear or peace so sweet”.....it ends with “Give me liberty or give me death”> That was said by one of those “Old white men” back about 237 years or so. To some of us it still means something.
