New York Times editorial blasts de Blasio inaugural speeches ("Graceless and Smug")
Daily Caller ^ | 1/3/2014 | chuck ross

Posted on 01/03/2014 6:08:54 PM PST by Titus-Maximus

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s inaugural was filled with “backward-looking speeches both graceless and smug” The The New York Times said in a scathing editorial Friday.

The paper’s editorial board called out three inauguration participants for their demagoguery and defended former Mayor Michael Bloomberg from the speakers’ jabs at his tenure.

“Worst among them, but hardly alone, was the new public advocate, Letitia James, who used her moment for her own head-on attack: on the 12 years of Mayor Michael Bloomberg,” read the Times editorial. James, who now holds the office formerly held by de Blasio, brought a 12-year-old girl named Dasani Coates to the stage to highlight child hunger.

“Ms. James turned her into Exhibit A of an Inauguration Day prosecution: the People v. Mayor Bloomberg,” said the Times of Coates’ appearance.

The New York Post reported that James inaccurately claimed to have something to do with shedding light on Coates’ story.

The Times editorial also criticized “the pastor whose invocation likened New York to a “plantation.”

Rev. Fred A. Lucas Jr. of Brooklyn Community Church peppered his bombastic invocation with several references to slavery and bondage, likening the institution to the city’s current struggle with economic inequality and poverty.

De Blasio's ilk just doesn't get it. Now they look like fools. Ideologues, dangerous and inept.

The NY Times calling them "Graceless and Smug", well they should know.

Id go well beyond calling em graceless and smug:

Worst among them, but hardly alone, was the new public advocate, Letitia James, who used her moment for her own head-on attack: on the 12 years of Mayor Michael Bloomberg,” read the Times editorial. James, who now holds the office formerly held by de Blasio, brought a 12-year-old girl named Dasani Coates to the stage to highlight child hunger.

that is downright VILE and contemptable!

this is what one could expect from a SANDANISTA supporter who changed his name to get the Italian vote...

The irony is that this article is only about OPTICS and NARRATIVE. The NY Times takes a jab at DoucheBaggery but at the same time realizes he is there for years to come.

Regardless of the tripe it writes, the NY Times is and will always be a LibRag and they can embrace the SUCK along with every other Ny'er.

This idiot will get reigned in by the liberal moneyed elites when the bodies start to pile up.

They sure as hell aren’t going to go back to the 70’s and they remember when Dinkins was mayor.

Wilhelm sounds German. In addition to getting the Italian vote I think his name change is also convenient for getting the Jewish vote.

I suspect the NY Times knows well that with a freak-show of leftists running New York City, it’s just that much easier for the rest of America to decide that they really don’t give a sh!t about the place at all.

I always wondered why Mayor deBlasio’s (Wilhelm’s) keynote speaker Harry Belafonte doesn’t return home to his native Jamaica, as he detests this country and his home country is ruled by a government much closer to his political philosophy. Is it because most of Jamaica is a dump and unsafe?

Shouldn’t the New York Times understand by now that every left-wing event turns into another rendition of the hate-filled, over-the-top Paul Wellstone funeral?

Unfortunately for the New York Times, this particular funeral led by a Communist mayor will last for four years, by the end of which the words ‘’New York’’ will have such a bad connotation that the newspaper of record will be eager to change its name.

. . . why Mayor deBlasio’s (Wilhelm’s) keynote speaker Harry Belafonte doesn’t return home to his native Jamaica, as he detests this country and his home country is ruled by a government much closer to his political philosophy.

Harry lives on a huge, secluded estate in upstate New York, in a county that's 70 percent Republican, far from any messy street people or Jamaicans.

Demographics don’t favor the “liberal moneyed elites”; the Bolshevik revolution taking place (first with Obama, now with DeBlasio) is occurring at the ballot box. NYC has already chased out much of its middle & upper class; the dregs remaining outnumber the productive class. DeBlasio crushed his opponent, even with all his history out there.

DeBlasio has to go where the money is to fund his socialist programs and one of the prime sources has to be the greatest concentration of wealthy left liberals in the US outside of San Fran and Hollywood - the Upper West Side of Manhattan with multimillion dollar condos and co-ops populated by Broadway stars, trust fund babies and far leftists by mouth but not by lifestyle. This should be real interesting!
