Tangled Role in G.O.P. War Over Tea Party
The New York Times ^ | January 3, 2014 | Gabriella Demczuk

Posted on 01/04/2014 3:30:05 AM PST by Pharmboy

WASHINGTON — In the year since he stepped down from Congress, Steven C. LaTourette, a Republican from Ohio, has emerged as one of the top generals in the establishment Republicans’ war against the Tea Party.

It is a role that has benefited the Main Street Partnership, a corporate-backed advocacy group he runs, and its effort to raise millions of dollars to protect centrist Republicans from Tea Party challengers. It has also helped draw clients to a separate lobbying office Mr. LaTourette and his wife have set up across the street from the Capitol.

But this blitz of activity has led to complaints from Mr. LaTourette’s political opponents that under the guise of defending the Republican Party from extremists, he is profiting from his continued presence in the Washington spotlight. In addition, Mr. LaTourette’s activities have raised questions about whether, in his dual roles, the former congressman violated the federal statute that prohibits lawmakers from lobbying on Capitol Hill for a year after leaving office.

Mr. LaTourette’s situation underscores a new reality as the fierce divisions in the Republican Party unleash tens of millions of dollars in corporate funds, campaign donations and advocacy efforts, creating potential windfalls for well-positioned strategists and former officeholders. It also illustrates how vague the rules are governing lobbying by former members of Congress.

Snip...

His work for the Main Street Partnership, he said, is focused solely on helping lawmakers who believe in the government’s ability to solve problems to fight back against extremist groups like the Club for Growth, which he has likened to a “cancer that has attached itself” to the Republican Party for its role in challenging incumbent Republicans with more conservative candidates.

under the guise of defending the Republican Party from extremists....

SNORT! In the leftist narrative, the Constitution was written by patriarchal, slave-owning agents of the White Power Structure.

Even if a third party formed the problem would still be the traitors in the two we have. So I support TEA Party type efforts to clean out the dirtbagz one at a time. For my own part I still support individual candidates wherever they are, who will cut spending, etc.. I will also support anyone who advocates term limits. And I will support anyone who pledges to clean out the shiftless, useless, double-dealing bureaucraps left behind by Clintoon, Bush43, as well as the Kenyan.——I didn’t say it is easy.

There needs to be some kind of Tea Party alerts

You're making it too complicated. Give ONLY to candidates that have your stamp of approval.

At one time, wasn’t Henry Ross Pea Rot a “conservative”. He must have been “brainwashed” like the late George W. Romney. Didn’t Richard Crenna play Pea Rot in a movie?

You can tell a lot from a name. Liberal organizations often use fake names so as to trick the populace. Main Street Partnership, sounds just like the fake it is.

He didn’t raise the $10 million from the TEA Party supporters either. We can’t just blame the RSC for not funding a race nobody thought he could win.

We need to get behind these guys, bring our skills to bear and recognize that a lot of the best guys aren’t ready for prime time. Akin could have and should have won, but for bad handling and planning.

Not only is Steven Latourette perhaps violating federal laws, but his phony "Pro-business" (and anti-Tea Party) PAC is readily accepting heavy donations from labor unions...:

Theodore R.:

Doworst lost to Ted Cruz at primary. Second or third generation milquetoast Utah Senator Robert Bennett lost at convention to Mike Lee. The spaghetti-spined social issue revolutionary RINO of privilege Lt. Governor Bolling of VA who had been Mitt Romney's campaign manager in VA was forced by reality to withdraw from seeking the nomination at convention because Cucinelli would have whipped his backside historically. Christine O'Donnell (not a legendarily strong candidate but Tea Party all the way) put an end to the treacherously RINO career of Mike Castle (former governor and Congressthing) and put Castle out of our misery and out of our government. Marco Rubio of FL forced Limp Wrist Governor and GOP-E Charlie Crist to run third party and Rubio took the Senate seat. Shall I go on?

We can and should, at our earliest opportunity, destroy Light Loafers Graham (SC), Lisa Murkowski (POS-Alaska), LAMAR!!! Alexander, Bob Corker, John Isakson, Thad Cochrane, Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, etc., preferably in primaries but by whatever means necessary and legal.

Ratcheting up the effort to eliminate the spineless polo players from public life will require running third party candidates as well as primary candidates, pulling them off the ballot ONLY if our candidate wins the primary and also, where this is not possible, voting for Demonrat opponents to the worst of the worst offenders like the suntanned Weeper of the House John Boehner, the Majority "Leader" Eric Cantor, Paul "I love Patty Murray and her priorities" Ryan, Peter King, my own Adam Kinzinger and as many other "GOP" and "GOP-E" ideological treasonweasels as possible and strategically useful. Those who claim to be Republicans either toe the line or they must get deposited in the ashbin of history.

The trouble is that a large number are scoundrels trying to deceive you for money. Most of us are reliant on what we read here, since we can’t get good information through the MSM.

Today a headline was that Boehner is planning to wait until after the filing date for primaries ends to introduce repugnant legislation; specifically so that it will be too late for the Tea Party to challenge fifth columnists.

If the TEA Party and conservatives stay home and let the RINO’s lose everything, think they would learn anything? I doubt it

No question about that. But still good to let us know who our enemies are and how they are working against American values.
