Rush Limbaugh has come out swinging in defence of the heavily Irish horse and carriage industry in New York’s Central Park after new mayor Bill de Blasio promised to put them off the streets.
Over half the drivers of the 200 horses are Irish, but they are fighting a rearguard action against de Blasio, who had major support from animal rights groups.
De Blasio stated that one of his first acts would be to end the horse and carriage trade and replace it with electric car tours.
"We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City... They are not humane. ... It's over."
Limbaugh, among others, scoffed at that.

An interesting footnote to the whole fandango is that New York City owes its fine robust water supply to horse drawn carriages. The water supply system and storm drains were designed to allow for daily (early AM) sweeping of every street in Manhattan, followed by a wash down from fire hydrants. As the horses disappeared, early in the 20th Century, the practice was discontinued. Around 1985, they made the horses start wearing diapers! My wife always wanted a ride in a Hansom carriage. Last summer we stopped in Freeport, ME for some sort of L.L. Bean promotion. Attendant thereto, you could get a ride around downtown in a horse drawn carriage for $20 bucks, so we did it, starting at the L.L. Bean main store. It was fun.
Yea right, The owner is gonna abuse the animal that makes his paycheck every day, that makes a lot of sense.
Irish people live in Ireland, and I’ve never heard a brogue on a carriage driver.

Will New York’s new mayor be willing to publicly accompany the horses to the glue factory and the out-of-work drivers to the unemployment office so he can show the world how compassionate he is?
And why weren’t the horses allowed to voice their opinion on this issue? I’m sure they would have voted ‘’neigh.’’
I had no idea that this was an “Irish” trade. I always thought it was an eccentric trade. Irish immigrants to New York are some of the worst leftist, America-haters I have ever met. Why they are here is beyond me. In fact, read the first comment after this article. It will probably fill up with more hatred.
Maybe I need to rethink my support of the drivers...
From what I’ve heard, Wilhelm and the PETA types are going to farm these nags out to people who love and admire the beauty of the equine species. I predict one look at these sad nags is going to dissuade anyone from taking them home. These are NOT police horses. So, yes, you’re right: horsemeat for the British public.

For me, it’s more fun to go out to the barn and saddle up my Canadian mare, Jessamine. Lots of decent riding right in the neighborhood.
Plus, I can take my S&W model 29 and an M4gery along for trhe ride.
And, no mounted or carriage horses in parades, as well.
Oh, time to close the race tracks too.
Oh the terrible choices the Upper West Side superannuated hippies have to make. Support the ban on horse carriages or give up their free horse manure for their window box marahoochie.

(I used to watch the tie-dyed grannies scooping up the fresh manure as the carriages and rental riders passed. Saw some amusing arguements over who got there first. Once I was asked to say who got there first. Solomon like, I paused, and said, “Cut the crap in half.”)LOL
He has the same - I don’t know - pasty, fatty look that I associate with Piers Morgan. In other words, he makes my skin crawl. For the last 12 years, we had a dwarf as mayor. Now we have Herman Munster.

An average horse will produce 20.4 kilos (or 45 pounds) of manure each day, equating to 7.5 tonnes annually! This quantity does not include the addition of soiled stable bedding material. Then, the gallon plus of urine each day can add to enviral problems.
Daily horse flatus will add to enviral problems.
The hubris of the left has no bounds.
Who are they to know what is going on in the equine mind? Do these horses endure constant pain? Would these horses chose a sedentary life, standing in a sub zero field in New Hampshire for example over what’s been assigned to them in Central Park?
Sounds like the global warming game.
