Chinese Icebreaker Trapped After Helping in Antarctic Rescue
Yahoo News ^ | Alexander Marquardt & Anthony Castellano (GMA)

The 52 passengers rescued from an icebound ship in Antarctica might now become the rescuers.

The Chinese ship that sent a helicopter to rescue the passengers on board the Russian ship MV Akademik Shokalskiy is now stuck in Antarctic ice and might need a rescue of its own, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

An Australian icebreaker carrying the 52 passengers is waiting in open water to see if it has to go back to help the Chinese icebreaker Snow Dragon.

The 22 crew members still aboard the Akademik Shokalskiy are expected to remain with the vessel, according to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. The ship isn't in danger of sinking and has weeks' worth of supplies on board.

The Akademik Shokalskiy, which left New Zealand on Nov. 28, got stuck after a blizzard pushed the sea ice around the ship, freezing it in place about 1,700 miles south of Hobart, Tasmania. The scientific team on board the Russian vessel had been re-creating Australian explorer Douglas Mawson's 1911 to 1913 voyage to Antarctica.

You know, the Chinese may lose that ice breaker, but they will get BUSHEL BASKETS of anti-global warming mileage out of it. From their point of view, “mission accomplished”. Even if our media will suppress this, the non-Socialist world media won’t.

I also have yet to see mention of the fact that it’s summer in the southern hemisphere. And that the reason they were taking this trip is because it’s supposed to be the best weather of the year there.

They did not expect to be trapped in the ice this time of year, so how does this tie in with global warming theories? I’ve heard that the north pole is supposed to be ice free in the next few years because of global warming.

They won’t. There’s an article elsewhere that the insurance companies are on the hook.

Today, Saturday, the Chinese captain hoped the tide change would enable them to get free of the ice. I’m LMAO that the turistas have to stand by on the Australian ice breaker. If I’m reading the correct info, the closest heavy ice breaker is about a 1000 miles away. That one can handle 20’ thick ice. It’s not involved at this point.

One of the commenters called it the Al Gore Effect. HA! Makes perfect sense. Every time or nearly every time the idiots have a Gaia worship party/gathering/research into the polar areas mission or forecast disaster, they get the opposite of their intent.

God has a sense of irony.

There must be some mistake. The Chinese are superior to the rest of the world (and especially the USA) at everything, and destined to rule us very soon.

No Chinese captain could make such an error, and no Chinese ship could be trapped in this inconsequential ice.

I call shenanigans.

Were they HISTORIANS or GLOBAL WARMING NUTS?

I loathe the liberal media.

When you break icebergs, that affects the environment. I hope the Marxists are happy with their F***-UP.

Yep, the US to the rescue...

I hope the liquor locker aboard the Aussie icebreaker is full. These liberal “scientists?) are heavy drinkers.

A group of liberal pseudoscientists rescued from their joyride from more responsible men that work for a living. And count the cost.

These bullship “scientists” have no more credulity or honesty than a pack of drunken teenagers wrecking a car and laughing while their parents work to pay the bill, and to make the comparison complete, now they’re lying about why they took the car.

Liberals never pay.
