Could 2014 be the “Year of the Tea Party Democrat”?
Legal Insurrection ^ | January 4, 2014 | Leslie Eastman

Posted on 01/04/2014 4:21:41 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Democratic Party heads would explode if the rank and file went Tea Party in protest.

At the start of the New Year, Legal Insurrection reader Nicholas wrote to ask Professor Jacobson the following question: Could 2014 be the year of the Tea Party Democrats? The political climate certainly seems appropriate.

As Legal Insurrection’s designated “Tea Party Democrat,” I would like to answer this: Yes and No.

Yes: Democrats are becoming as frustrated with their establishment leaders and failed policies as “Tea Party Republicans” have been with theirs. Exhibit 1: A townhall meeting in Chicago a hosted by Al Sharpton transformed into a “tea party” against “Chicago Machine” politics, Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and the aldermen in City Hall.

“This was a historic event,” Paul McKinley of V.O.T.E. (Voices of the Ex-Offender) and former 2nd Congressional District GOP nominee to replace Jesse Jackson, Jr. told Breitbart News…..

McKinley told the room, “Stop blaming just anybody for the violence in the city of Chicago. Blame the right people, not just white people, but the right people. Because it’s not just white folks a part of this, but it is on the fifth floor. The fifth floor took your schools, the fifth floor just took your jobs that he said that he gave to the ex-offender… and every single alderman was a part of this criminal process.”

The video will delight fans of schadenfreude:

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

To paraphrase Frank Sinatra: If a revolt can make it here, it can make it anywhere.

Exhibit 2: Another core constituency is showing signs of open rebellion. Last month, it was reported that Obama’s approval numbers had tanked in 2013 among Hispanics — the biggest plunge for any core group.

Now, comes word that Eric Holder’s Justice Department is disputing as unfounded the religious challenge that led a Supreme Court justice to partially block the provision from taking effect this week. Hispanic justice, Sonia Sotomayor, was the one who signed the eleventh-hour order in response to a plea from the Little Sisters of the Poor Home for the Aged, a Colorado-based order of nuns, that is now being challenged.

I suspect this will not enhance the popularity of the Obama administration.

And as many Americans trusted Obama’s healthcare promises, the fact that frustrated patients (some of them Hispanic) are walking out of hospitals without treatment:

‘They had no idea if my insurance was active or not!’ a coughing Maria Galvez told MailOnline outside the Inova Healthplex facility in the town of Springfield.

She was leaving the building without getting a needed chest x-ray.

‘The people in there told me that since I didn’t have an insurance card, I would be billed for the whole cost of the x-ray,’ Galvez said, her young daughter in tow. ‘It’s not fair – you know, I signed up last week like I was supposed to.’

Legal Insurrection readers now may be asking, “Then, Leslie, why do you also say NO?“

Because “Tea Party” has been so derided and mocked in the mainstream media and comedy shows…which is still the main source of news for the less politically engaged. Cue Jon Stewart:

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

It is also not terribly helpful when conservative luminaries like Charles Krauthammer refer to Tea Partiers as the “Suicide Caucus” and Republicans name “top generals in the War Against Tea Party“. Also, GOP guru Karl Rove further derided grassroots activists recently by saying this of his new group: “Our object is to avoid having stupid candidates who can’t win general elections.”

While all of this is unfair, sensible activists deal with “conditions on the ground”.

As a Democrat, I offer this hopeful forecast related to my party for 2014: Democrats around the country will begin pushing back on government in their own way under a different label. It was done in 1992 by Bill Clinton and his team’s concept of “centrist Democrats“.

More recently, a Blue Dog Coalition of “fiscally conservative Democrats” has this to say:

I am a Blue Dog Democrat because I believe that a fiscally conservative government and being committed to the security and safety of the United States are two principles our founding fathers supported and should continue to be the core principles upon which our leaders govern.

So, 2014 will probably not be the “Year of the Tea Party Democrat”, but of the “Blue Dog” (or some other trendy moniker).

Same concept. Different label. And probably not entirely the same set of goals.

TEA is leading by example. Conservative Democrats have been as trashed by zero as we have, almost. Their insurance policies are being as cancelled as republican-voters are.

Is it too early to call them ‘Cruz Democrats’?

It depends on what the argument is.

I’ve found some success in arguing that the tea party will give liberals more of what they want than the Democrats. I remind them of all the democrat promises to end the cronyism and corporate welfare and then challenge them to show me what the democrats have done. I then remind them of the chamber of commerce attack on the tea party and explain that it’s because the chamber knows the tea party actually intends to end the cronyism and corporate welfare.

Except for one thing.... it’s NOT who votes......
BUT... who counts the votes that count..

The voting machine software may be a Trojan Horse.. i.e. probably is
Judging by many precincts with over 100% tally..
Even 100% is well night impossible.. even 90%.....

AND then there is the non mechanical massive voter fraud..
Voting DIED in Nov. 2012.. it died... i.e. became obvious... that hanky panky was afoote..

Since Nov 2012 the democrats have (no doubt) increased their expertise.. i.e. fine tuned...
Not everywhere BUT in most places.. especially the north east.. and left-coast..

WHY?.. republicans have done zero about it.. AND don’t even WANT to face that it exists..
They turn their heads and ignore it... (much to the delight of democrats)..

ONLY a Civil War can correct this situation....
I don’t like the thought of it either .... BUT IT’S TRUE...
No CW then prepare to become a democrat.. -OR- DIE..
or be re-educated in internment camps... or worked to death..

It has happened many times before AND will again...
America has become CORRUPT... and short of a CW.... deserves it..

Regardless of their agreement with tea party ideas, they will always vote D. Liberalism of any degree really is a mental illness.

I'm happy you do. I try too. I have the loveliest elderly neighbors who moved from NYC to Texas and they predictably brought their politics with them. It's pointless to talk politics with them - in their mind, they are more compassionate, less racist, etc. than you and me. And yet they lure me in just so they can explain their “wonderful” position. If I do tell them something logical (conservative) they go silent and shrug. But they will never not vote D no matter how horrible the D candidate is.

I’m not so sure they’ll go Tea Party, but I bet many Democrats will become Libertarians.

LOL, the RINO party is so afraid of libertarians that they've slandered them as left of the left. What rot. Democrats will go RINO first, because RINO is between Democrats and real GOP Conservatives. Then come the Tea Party Republicans to the right of the GOP conservatives. Then to the right of them are the libertarians.

So the LAST place the Democrats will really go is the the libertarians, because there they will get zero social services. But the FIRST place they will SAY they will go is the libertarians, to freak out the Right and make a bogeyman of libertarian principles. This is because without the RINOs to block the conservatives from being able to fight, the Democrats would collapse. So they slander any rightward movement as libertarian, and then claim libertarianism is close to the heart of liberal Democrats.

It's the Big Lie, and extremely popular in California and Silicon Valley. Millions of hypocrite liberals claiming to be libertarians while grabbing as much money, power and control as possible and voting straight-ticket Democrat Socialist.

Um, Karl - If you really believe the above, you kind of missed the boat in 1996, 2008 and 2012.

Where is Ralph Nader when you really need him to destroy the Democratic Party. It would sure be nice to see a flaming liberal progressive, but anti-establishment party person like Nader to get the backing of splinter groups from “Occupy Whatever” to Organizing American and what ever ACORN has morphed into.

The brain-washable “Hope & Change” crowd is still out there.

A Tea Party Democrat is akin to the “$5 virgin whore” which legend says exists - oops, make that “$5 virgin Ho”.

Gotta rephrase things to stay PC correct.

Too bad the tea party can’t run on a different ticket as well as the GOP ticket, like in New York State. Then the Dems wouldn’t have to get cooties from pulling the Republican lever to get what they want.

No, it’s the people shooting other people who are the right people to blame, and a vanishingly small number of them are white people. NONE of the aldermen pulled a trigger. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

Tea Party isn’t a branch of the GOP. Its an independent movement—so Conservative Democrats are welcome as well as recovering Liberals, Libertarians who sober up, and Reform Party wackos who wake up and smell the coffee. All Americans are welcome to sholder the musket of freedom and join the ranks to retake America. This isn’t about one party or another—its about smaller government, fewer taxes and regulations and the Constutition of the USA. Put on your tricorn hat and join the party!
