A new power in conservative media By: Hadas Gold January 4, 2014 05:59 PM EST
A player in Christian and talk radio stations is buying up popular conservative websites moves that could make Salem Communications the next big thing in right-wing media.
The California-based company has recently gobbled up sites that reach millions of readers, like Michelle Malkins Twitchy.com, the Eagle Publishing group which is home to RedState.com, HumanEvents.com and the conservative publishing house Regnery. The Salem empire already includes more than 100 Christian and conservative talk-radio stations and several Christian-themed websites, as well as HotAir.com and TownHall.com.
Though Salem doesnt appear to be planning major changes to the sites, media experts say the move represents a bid to consolidate the huge conservative market and power up the companys effort to reach beyond its core conservative Christian devotees to possibly become more of a powerful political force on the right. The consolidation Salem is undertaking is unlike anything seen on the left, where media efforts are generally much more individualized.
With the expansion, Salem is well-positioned to expand its audience - and its conservative influence - by tapping a new group of listeners and readers described by one media observer as those who are the sister or cousin of the hardcore Tea Party member whos already tuned in.
Adding Twitchy into its portfolio, Salem called itself the largest social media driven conservative platform on the Web with nearly 10 million unique readers and over 100 million page views each month. The expansion also brings some of the bigger names of conservative blogging, like Erick Erickson and Mary Katharine Ham, under one roof. And Salem has the funds for a substantial platform: In 2012, the publicly traded company generated $108 million of gross profit on $229 million of revenue.

Are they going to buy FR?
Not likely, and if Salem overall is like their station here, it is getting increasingly shallow and liberal.
Salem is the home of uber-RINOS Medved, Prager and Hewitt. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if they were funded by the GOP-E.
Hope this move does NOT have the stinky hand of Rove, Kristol, similar schmucks behing the $$$
Nope. We treasure our independence.
I ask myself, is any of Soros’ money involved here?
“Here” meaning involved with Salem?
The whole bunch are so corrupt...
...and our freedom to speak frankly against the socialists, statists and corrupt crony capitalist bastards, including those corrupting the GOP.
Prager a RINO? At least they still have Mike Gallager out here.
Maybe they could buy FB even thought it’s not conservative or start their on social site.
Beware of Trojan Horse
I like Gallagher - at least he supported Newt in the primaries.
Prager is Hugh’s little buddy. I don’t trust him.
I am a fan of Twitchy. The rest? Meh...
Good video message on that by one of the best preachers i know of over the past 40 years: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpyZbzOJ2b0
Prager is self made prior to his radio career and in it.
He’s got nothing to do with Hewitt other than being on the same station.
Prager is probably least RINO of Medved, and Hewitt.
Exactly what I was thinking!
The GOP-E and Karl Rove have already declared war on Tea Party group .. which I believe is a huge mistake.
Also, Geico has now produced an ad which shows a “tea bag being blown into Boston harbor”, with the statement .. “I guess the party’s over.”
May be too subtle for some .. but I noticed it the first time I saw it.
So .. is this part of the RHINO’s plan to get rid of the Tea Party by enlisting the aid of advertisers.
I don’t think the GOP-E have a clue just exactly WHO they’re up against .. it’s only the BASE of the repubs. How are they planning on electing people without their base ..??
Could be Soros money .. because there was a story this weekend re Rubio being Soros’ supporter.
So, all those who thought Rubio was the 2nd coming .. better choose another.
My money is still on Ted Cruz and Mike Lee.
