A Clemson University professor is developing a new electronic voting system that will allow voters to cast their ballots from home computers, tablets and smartphones.

As Clemson’s chair of human-centered computing, Juan Gilbert has lead teams of students over the last 10 years to create an online voting system accessible at home or on the go that will be more accurate, have increased verification and make voting more accessible to people with disabilities by offering mobile and voice-command options.

I prefer to walk in and cast my vote, and even THEN I’m not positive of the infallibility system.

Great idea in theory; not having to trudge off to some obscure church, fire house or school that might be a big detour from work or home, but is it trustworthy? That is the billion-dollar question.

ATMs would work better. Existing technology. Most people can use them. They are everywhere. Identity verification. Hard to hack

Not only did I never mind the “trudge”, I actually felt a sense of community by visiting the voting booth with my neighbors. It was more than exercising my civic duty, it was an affirmation of my citizenship and participation in the well being of my town, my state, and my country.

I don’t have that sense anymore and it’s a damned shame.

Headline should actually read “University developing software to allow democratic party to use your tablet or phone to steal your vote and cast it for the person they
choose”.

No problem! Just have the vote fingerprint or retina-scan activated, one per customer. Or would that be racist like checking ID at the polls?

Multi-billion dollar companies dealing on-line can’t keep credit card or email address confidential and they want us to trust voting to the internet?

Call me paranoid but I don’t trust our current voting system so I certainly would not trust an internet based system that is open to any hacker with the least bit of interest in impacting the country’s politics.

Just have the vote fingerprint or retina-scan activated, one per customer.

No problem, the professional vote fraudsters will just develop counterfeit contact lenses and adhesive fingerprints and keep going at their task. "Vote early, vote often."

Hacking by liberals to guarantee an outcome
NSA backdoors so they know who you voted for and punish you for it
Overwhelmed system by hackers so that the election is useless, current guy stays in power
