The government required people to register their guns, insisting it was for their own protection, a way of tracking down criminals that was supposed to cut down on crime.
In reality, however, it was merely a ruse to track down those patriots who might resist the coming tyranny.
So explains Kitty Werthmann in a speech going viral on the Internet, a story of her life in Austria right before the Nazi occupation of her home country in 1938. As she explains, her nation’s surrender to Nazi tyranny didn’t begin with the Anschluss, but with little steps like acquiescing to gun-control laws:
“Dictatorship didn’t happen overnight. I took five years, gradually, little by little, to escalate up to a dictatorship,” she said. “When the people fear the government, that’s tyranny. When the government fears the people, that’s you, that’s liberty. Keep your guns, keep your guns and buy more guns!”
Werthmann’s speech, delivered at the “Let Freedom Ring” tea-party rally in Woodstown, N.J., on June 28, 2011, has been frequently circulated via YouTube and other online channels for years, but picked up steam again after the National Rifle Association reposted it recently under the title “Hitler Survivor Condemns Gun Control.”
The clear implication in her speech is that modern-day Americans should beware gun-control laws that strip them of their ability to resist an overbearing government.
“In 1938, the media reported that Hitler rolled into Austria with tanks and guns and took us over. Not true at all,” she said. “The Austrian people elected Hitler by 98 percent of the vote, by means of the ballot box.
“You might ask, ‘How could a Christian nation … elect a monster like Hitler?’” she concinued. “The truth is, at the beginning Hitler didn’t look like or talk like a monster at all. He talked

That wasn't a free election--what with German troops in the streets, Hitler Youth and Sturmabteilungen present at the polling places and the Gestapo keeping watch. Vincent Sheean, a left-leaning journalist provides a good eyewitness account of this election in his book Not Peace but a Sword (New York: Doubleday, 1939)

...they “think” they will be “safe” and allow others to lose their liberty-—like the majority of Germans when they caved to Hitler—thinking if they just “do” what he says, they (at least) are safe.
Most people are not students of history and understand even less what philosophy is. They believe Marxists/Nazis/Christians/Muslims all “think” the same and are basically “good”.

back in the 80’s when Polish jokes were the rage, we had a nurse aid that was a survivor of concentration camp. She still had her number on her forearm and blew up when she came to the nurses station and heard someone tell a polish joke...she said that was how the jews ended up being sent to camps. First you dehumanize a group, for her it was the jews that they made fun of. Then that progressed to dehumanize them...then sent them to camps as being less than human...We all stopped with the jokes about others.
I don’t understand that reference, but I have never purchased a gun from a gun dealer.

California is different. Before we married my husband worked in a sporting goods store and had several guns. He taught me to shoot. I liked the sig sauer pistol but my favorite was a nice, small Beretta that fit NICELY into my hand.
The target he set up for me was the face of Osama bin Laden. I got so I could plug a hole very nicely into Osasshole's beard ALMOST every shot!
Undoubtedly true. Don't the major gun makers keep records, though?
