Tiger Mom: Some cultural groups are superior
New York Post ^ | January 4, 2014 | Maureen Callahan

She’s doubling down.

Amy Chua, the self-proclaimed “Tiger Mom” who, in 2011, published a book arguing that Chinese women are superior mothers — thus their offspring superior children — has even more to say.

In “The Triple Package,” Chua and her husband, co-author Jed Rubenfeld, gather some specious stats and anecdotal evidence to argue that some groups are just superior to others and everyone else is contributing to the downfall of America.

Unsurprisingly, the Chinese Chua and the Jewish Rubenfeld belong to two of the eight groups they deem exceptional. In no seeming order of importance, they are: •Jewish •Indian •Chinese •Iranian •Lebanese-Americans •Nigerians •Cuban exiles •Mormons

These groups — “cultural,” mind you, never “ethnic” or “racial” or “religious” — all possess, in the authors’ estimation, three qualities that they’ve identified as guarantors of wealth and power: superiority, insecurity and impulse control.

Americans not among their eight groups. “Because all three elements of the Triple Package run so counter to modern American culture, it makes sense that America’s successful groups are all outsiders in one way or another,” they write. “Paradoxically, in modern America, a group has an edge if it doesn’t buy into — or hasn’t yet bought into — mainstream, post-1960s, liberal American principles.”

Unfortunately, the red diaper babies are doing their best to eliminate that "edge" by lowering standards, liberal indoctrination, and the welfare state, as evidenced by our affirnmative action president.

Those groups still believe in education and high achievement.

I know a family who immigrated here from Nigeria, and by their own admission, they have little in common with the “lazy American black people.” One guy has a civil engineering degree and owns a small construction compnay, where he works seven days a week. His wife is a nurse. They have a daughter who is a dentist, a son who is a lawyer, and another son who is in engineering school.

Personally and to the more general topic, I am greatly in favor of involved PARENTS striving to get their children educated to the highest possible standards that the kids are capable of. If this person / book is a challenge to others, let them take that challenge.

Frankly, in today’s USA, the problem is in the detached parent(s) wanting the village to raise their child.

I’m not surprised to see Nigerians there. They sure have a lot of wealthy princes giving away thier inheritance there.

An equally disturbing problem are parents -- liberal and conservative alike -- who think their children are brilliant, uber-talented, super-special, etc., just because the child is their offspring and regardless of actual achievement.

Competition - Survival Of The Fittest, if you will - is the subtext here.

Liberals decry the very concept but it is the method God designed and employed to perfect his Kingdom here on Earth.

The modern version of Christianity, according to liberals, is just some feel-good, re-distributive, Kumbaya bull-squeeze that would have left the gift of life as lowly pond scum in the primordial soup.

       1. A superiority complex - Self-confidence
       2. Insecurity - recognizing you are responsible for yourself
       3. Impulse control - always a good idea

The problem is they include the urban ghetto ‘culture’ in the mix of what they call American.

Remove that and our culture jumps dramatically up in the list.

If China is great, why are so many of them trying to leave..?

Because vicious people have a much easier time making a living when their marks are unvicious.

Hahaha. I like your style.
The ABC's, American Born Chinese, didn't always fit this stereotype but the CIAs (Chinese In America) and FOBs (Fresh off the Boeing) sure did. The pressure from their parents was unreal.
