First on CNN: Liz Cheney, whose bid to unseat Wyoming Sen. Mike Enzi sparked a round of warfare in the Republican Party and even within her own family, is dropping out of the Senate primary, sources told CNN's John King.
Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, began telling associates of her decision over the weekend and could make an announcement about the race as early as Monday.
Well, that was pointless.
End of Cheney Circus ping 2!
The County in Wyo. where Cheney established residency is the only one to have gone majority 0bama.
Liz Cheney was early in her support for gay marriage and the homosexual agenda, including at the federal level and for the military.
She wanted DADT ended and rejoiced when it was, she was against DOMA, is against a constitutional amendment to save marriage, and supports gay marriage, and supports the State department move to the gay agenda.
After 46 years of life and politics, and being a member of the Romney campaign where she never expressed a pro-life belief, anywhere, she has also suddenly became strongly pro-life, just for this campaign.
This is a victory to stop the libertarian movement to an anti-social conservative GOP.
Good, glad that’s over with. It always made more sense for her to run in Virginia.
Not if you wanted to keep a real Tea Party candidate out of the race.
She was no Tea Party Conservative.
CNN website confirming...
Never made sense for her to run for this particular office. Enzi is pretty conservative.
What are you talking about? Liz Cheney is Establishment. This is a setback for entitled Establishment DC aristocracy thinking they can step on home-grown candidates like Enzi.
Wyo. must have a Cruz like pol somewhere in the State. Enzi has been in DC long enough (like many others).
Wrong. Both of them are Establishment Candidates.
Her brief entry was simply to scare off any real conservatives
from entering the race.
Another trick from a Rove.
Liz may be gone, but George P. stand solidly in TX!
Has anybody in the Cheney family served in the military? Just asking.
Levin supported Hatch too.
He regrets that decision greatly.
Just what we need. Another Bush, then another Clinton, then another Bush, then another Clinton.
instead of going after a Democrat, she went after a Republican with a 90-plus conservative voting record. Total ego trip by an entitled aristocrat. Glad she was shamed out of the race before she diverted too much GOP campaign money from the effort to beat Democrat incumbents.
Nonsense. I supported Enzi. CHENEY is the establishment, and a RINO at that.
I love Mark Levin, but he was dead wrong with this endorsement, as he was (times 1000) with his insane Orrin Hatch endorsement, which he later regretted (but should have known better to begin with)
Linda Graham has about a 90% rating too. Do you want him back?
I think that Liz Cheney went to Wyoming to take a Senate seat where she could promote libertarian social liberalism in the GOP, while sounding tough and right wing (as she does to the unsuspecting), to serve the GOP rinos as a counterbalance to the tea party warrior Sarah Palin, and other truly conservative tea party women.
I really don’t understand how the names Bush and Cheney still carry cache with Republicans. When they left office we were in the biggest economic mess since the Great Depression, The Repubican Party in the 30s and 40s was smart enough not to keep nominating relatives of Herbert Hoover. Whey does today’s GOP want to nominate relatives of Bush and Cheney?
I do understand where you are coming from. I didn’t follow this ditz because I knew she would sell us out every chance she got.
Is it too late for someone that is level-headed to take her place?
“Never made sense for her to run for this particular office. Enzi is pretty conservative.”
Me either. I am glad she is dropping out. Maybe down the road she will have her chance.
Those of us who support reformation of the Republican Party need bomb throwers. We need Newt Gingrichs not Mike Enzis.
Graham has 90 percent?
Prove it. He’s tax and spend.
Everyone has it wrong. This was not about a senate run, It was about me me me me ! We have not heard the last of this, but for now, it is just a joke.
But her entry probably scared other real conservatives from entering
the primary and her quitting has ensured Enzi will survive.
Liz can now go back to being pro-gay
Once again, I get what you’re saying. The problem with these folks is that we trade off one Leftist idiot to get one Leftist idiot. Maybe I’m wrong. I just don’t think this woman would be in our camp on much.
Read post 6, she was too liberal, she is a Romney like fake, she did not mean well for the right.
I think that is about what his rating is.
The ratings are very misleading, though.
His vote for the coming Amnesty will not be reflected in his ratings,
as it is only one vote. The rating does not “weigh” the impact of a vote
on a major issue such as amnesty or bailouts, etc.
She’d have “raised some hell” on behalf the party establishment. The only thing “wrong” with Enzi was that he was in the little princesses precious little way to the halls of power.
Levin backed her cause he’s in bed with the neocon Cheneys and company. It’s sad so many people treat his endorsement like the mark of Christ.
Now she quits to head off an embarrassingly large defeat because the good people of Wyoming aren’t as dumb as she thought they were. I say HAHA.
I love the smell of RINO humiliation in the morning
This bodes ill for the other Senate primary contests in this sense rather than in the sense of more conservative vs. less conservative, the point of my first reply.
It’s funny how Rove never denounced this challenge to an incumbent.
I will vote for Carr against Alexander.
However, I have come to the conclusion that we have already passed
the point of return anyway. Amnesty will soon be passed and that will
be the final straw for tens of millions of conservatives supporting the GOP.
Can’t control what happens after that, but I will continue to “stock up”.
That is something I can control.
Both neocons recently (since GWB) converted to the cause of liberty because they saw it as convenient.
No one knows what the Cheney's really believe in besides an aggressive military.
Read post 6, the 2008 member of the Romney campaign is “establishment”.
If she wanted to shake things up she should have run in Virginia, against a pro-abortion democrat ,not move out of state to defeat a social conservative republican.
“Well, that was pointless.”
Quite the fizzle fest.
Really masterful job of the Cheney camp getting conservatives on the internet to believe that SHE was the “anti-establishment” choice (this is so laughable an idea that it’s akin to selling ice to eskimos) and that the guy that votes right 95% of the time “had to go”.
How unfortunate for them that Wyomingites weren’t so easy to fool.
About as many times as I have to make it clear that it should be.
She is finished thank God. I had a creepy feeling that she has bad, long term intentions against conservatism, and wanted to become the rino version of Sarah Palin, and to try and emerge as the tough sounding, social liberal, female face of the GOP.
