When MSNBC's Thomas Roberts announced the new line of Duck Commander guns on January 3rd, he was joined by Len Everett of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. Everett claimed Phil Robertson, of Duck Dynasty fame, made his controversial comments to sell guns to conservative, middle-aged, white males and criticized the Robertson family for selling the kinds of guns used in mass shootings.
Roberts used leading questions to guide Everett in making these points throughout the segment.
For example, Roberts introduced Everett by pointing out that the new line of guns includes a "semi-automatic pistol" and "two semi-automatic rifles." Moreover, "the pistol and one of the rifles have military style designs with large capacity magazines holding at least 25 rounds."
This allowed Everett to respond in disbelief that Mossberg firearms would partner with a family like the Robertsons to make guns, especially guns with "high capacity" magazines.
Everett pointed out the common elements in "mass shootings" are "the semi-automatics"(continued)

The only “common element” in nearly every rampage shooting of the past few decades has been a dangerously deranged individual that should have been institutionalized long before he ever hurt anyone.

Actually, there are two common elements in nearly every rampage shooting of the past few decades. The one you mention above of deranged individuals. The other one is they were all leftists. Although, when you think about it, leftist and deranged are actually synonymous.
Around four years ago....back in my hometown in Bama....a gal I went to school with...was asked by the sister-in-law to come back and stand with her at the divorce hearing on a Monday.
Things had gone badly for at least a decade between the husband and wife. He was continually acting nutty...perhaps from some mental issue or from drugs (take your pick). He and his sister had been on good terms.
As the sister arrived to help the wife over this weekend leading up to the divorce hearing...this guy went ‘turbo’. He came to the door of the house on Saturday evening...killing the wife, his daughter, his sister, and the sister’s son. Then he killed himself.
As the FBI defines mass killings...four or more...this one made the yearly statistics of that year.
The guy was borderline psychotic. Maybe drugs pushed him a bit. But he was never enough that any judge would sign papers to put him into a facility for one single day.
When you sit down and analyze shootings in general (removing the FBI threshold of four or more)....you come to three divisions (robbery gone wrong, nut-case, or doped-up frenzy). The solution in each division? Because no one will put the nuts away, and no one can fix the doper situation....basically, we need most everyone to be armed and prepared to dispatch these folks to a better place.
Trying to explain how guns taken from citizens will foster a new bold and safe world? I keep waiting for the rational answer to appear. It’s mostly slogans from some journalist, or some irrational person talking of fixing a problem but never identifying what caused the problem.
Usually it isn’t rednecks that go on rampages. Mossberg is not stupid.
Answer is cultural value. 1910 America, about 100 million people. Only 17 percent grad HS, less then 1 percent college, 20 percent is middle class or better, rest are poor factory workers or small farmers. Little or no gun laws. Guess what was the total number of people murdered that year? 230
1910 America, much poorer and less educated then 2013 America but had a murder rate equal to 700 in today’s population numbers. Today we kill about 12000 to 15000 Americans a year from homicide of all sorts.
My challenge to most of my young liberal college grads at work when we talk about society and social issues, I throw this statistic at them. Many are dumbfounded. How can a poorer less educated, homophobe, anti women and anti color people society have such a low murder rate. More guns and less gun control to boot. The low murder rate of an old fashion society does not immediately make them conservative but it makes them start thinking why traditional society was more peaceful then the modern one they live in.
Mosberg has made two firearms that look like an AR but both fire the .22 rimfire round. One of the weakest rounds on the market today or ever for that matter. Yes they are still deadly in the right situations but they are far, far, from the .223/5.62 NATO that the AR or M-16 fires.
Please, please, please tell who ever wrote this crap what a gun ignorant moron they really are. What they insinuated was that this is in some way an assault rifle and that is an outright bold faced lie.
This should make it very clear for all to see that honesty, truth and fact mean nothing to the anti constitution gun grabbing unamerican morons

Your ‘1910’ has three attachments.
First, mental tests could be readily applied by any county judge, and you could put a relative or neighbor into a state facility with a fair amount of ease. They never came out, but you felt safe from that point on.
Second, while we likely consumed twice as much booze in 1910 as today, we didn’t have all the drug usage and it’s issues.
Third, guys worked hard physical labor for ten to twelve hours a day, and didn’t really have any energy left to get into vast amounts of trouble like we do today.
I’ll also point out that the lifestyle of 1910 was you kinda went to bed shortly after sundown. Few folks stood around at 11PM on the street corner talking, or were driving through Memphis at 1AM. In the whole city of Atlanta in 1910....at 1AM, you might be lucky to find a dozen folks out and doing anything.
Disgusting.
