Amazing: an essay on immigration into France that does not even discuss Islam or Muslims. How fascinatingly vapid.

I have lived in Paris since 2008, and this author's shallow pen and even shallower brain are all you need to witness to understand why I do not, EVER, frequent the "expat" crowd in this city. This is the archetypical idiot American liberal fetishizing a hypothetical non-existant Marxist European wünderland.

If you really want to get fired up, read some of the contents implying the French people (most of whose families have never lived outside of France) deserve this for their colonial past.

What rubbish.

“France will be ethnically diverse from here on out, and that it’s the responsibility of the French as much as of the immigrants to make this work”

Not if they’re kicked out, and if Marine Le Pen wins the next election, as is looking likely right now, they will be.

FTA: “the country’s historical responsibility as a colonial power for the presence of former colonial subjects...”

Hasn’t the statute of limitations expired on this?

Yes, I noticed that - ‘This is their penalty for their colonial past.” Indeed? Really? That they should have to give up their country? And the expats believe that? It is just liberal guilt. Disgusting.

It’s typical leftist guilt-mongering. The Left has suicidal tendencies and doesn’t realize it.

This conviction is typically expressed without any acknowledgment of the country’s historical responsibility as a colonial power...

France's "responsibility as a colonial power" arose after centuries of Arab pirates raiding its coasts and kidnapping its women for the slave trade. It was a retaliatory act against a historical predator. But let not historical facts get in the way of The New York Times' globalist variant on "manifest destiny."

...France will be ethnically diverse from here on out, and that it’s the responsibility of the French as much as of the immigrants to make this work.

Looks to me like France "wills" not to be ethnically "diverse." They would prefer "harmony" to constant strife (diverse, adverse, converse, reverse... all imply opposition).

I was told by a taxi driver as we passed through a black neighborhood: “I hope you got your shots. You don’t need to go to Africa anymore to get a tropical disease.”

The implication here is that this is false, just a racist rant.

But is it TRUE? The author is profoundly uninterested.

And while it is disheartening, what I hear in the streets is really only an echo of the rhetoric of politicians and purported intellectuals, who have found it convenient to blame the most powerless members of French society for the instability of the present and the uncertainty of the future.

Well they won't remain powerless for ever, and then I suspect the naive Infidel author will flee the country and head back home-still making excuses for Muslims. - tom

Simply put, the more Muslims a nation has, the worse off it is. Islam is a curse upon mankind. Nothing in its history indicates otherwise, and no Islamic nation today demonstrates a trend towards better. Why fool with it?

A good friend of mine was born in France, lived and worked there, and now lives in Portugal.

She says it is like visiting the Middle East when she goes there now.

Actually, I am amazed at the most popular comments in the New York Time, where they actually condemn the author’s lack of awareness of the threat from Islam and Muzzie immigrants.

Well, the French and every other European country brought this on themselves. Just as we have brought our own immigration problem on ourselves.

Here, for now at least, our biggest concern are the folks from Central and South America. Pretty soon, we’ll be dealing with the same level of folks coming from all those pretty places in the Middle East. If you thought the Latin’s were bad, wait til you deal with the savages from the ME.

And, the essay CANNOT discuss Muslims/Islam. The author is afraid that he’ll get his head chopped off by one of the peaceful Muslims.

Same times who said knock out games were a myth.Same times that said..No evidence that Al Qaeda played any role in Benghazi attack, but the anti-Muslim video did..
