I don't know why the Pope would say something that is easily proven to be untrue. The Koran is full of violence and Mohammed murdered many himself.

Why is the Pope pretending that it is a religion of peace?

I’ve heard priests call it ‘that thing the Islamists refer to as a religion’

Perhaps the pope has not read the muslim’s book

His Holiness is sadly mistaken about Islam. While their book has some peaceful teachings, these are generally attributed to Mo’s earlier years. Before he transformed” into a man of violence and started killing people. And the Moslems choose to follow the later ( hateful pro- murdering) teachings when there is a conflict. They say this is the logical way to resolve their contradictory teachings. And it almost always results in the horrible violence exhibited by Islam all around the world Perhaps so done more knowledgeable in the Vatican will be able now to bring the Pope up to speed on the reality of things Islam ?

Actually Francis has it backwards.

I notice that the FURTHER one is from obeying the tenets of authentic Islam, the LESS extremist and violent one is.

The closer and more seriously one takes the tenets of authentic Islam, the MORE extremist and violent one becomes.

I think his standard of authenticity is not internal to Islam.

Because liberalism is a mental disorder.

The Pope is an idiot and definitely not infallible.

I was afraid of this. Unlike the philosophically minded Pope Benedict, this guy is almost a trendy, new age type.

My sympathies to the lay Catholics and the rest of the world as well, which can use some solid philosophical guidance against Islam.

I think I know why, though. He’s got a theory in the back of his mind that every religion on earth is just Christianity in disguise with problems.

Even at the most open minded I could possibly get (any further and my brains would fall out) why isn’t this guy alert for doctrines of demons? One might be able to TRY to claim that about a peaceful faith like Buddhism. But the book of Islam is like cover to cover wickedness. That’s why Jimmy Carter, that inveterate Sunday School teacher, pored over it in vain looking for an opening for the nicey-nice offense.

It was indeed an amazingly stupid thing for Pope Francis to say. Remember when in 2006 (the Regensberg speech) Pope Benedict asked, in an academic philosophical forum, whether Islamic doctrine had roots in the Logos (Reason) which would permit the common ground for rational discussion --- and the Islamosphere's response was rioting on 3 continents and 19 people dead, including an elderly nun who cared for orphans, who was shot in the back.

One small consolation is that this was an Apostolic Exhortation, which Cardinal Burke says contains no definitions of doctrine and is not a part of the papal magisterium.

Burke: "Exhortation Not Part of the Papal Magisterium" (Link)

Magdi Cristiano Allam, Robert Spencer, and Raymond Ibrahim should have a good, long talk with Pope Francis.
