A new study released Monday found that nearly half of all black males and almost 40 percent of white males are arrested by the time they are 23-years old.
The analysis of national data from 1997 to 2008 of teenagers and young adults’ arrest histories — excluding traffic violations — were published Monday in the journal of Crime & Delinquency.
While there was variation in the rate of arrest between black and white men, there was little racial variation in the arrest rates among women of different races.

I wonder if the “excluding traffic violations” also excludes DUI/DWI arrests. Hard for me to believe the statistic if those are also excluded. If you include those - yeah, I can believe it.

Hispanic is usually numbered as “white” in crime stats.
Not sure if that’s the case, here, though.

Wonder how far this attitude goes down the chain of command..

The “half” HELD(convicted) must be the ones with crimes too heinous to ignore..
In a sane world the amount could be, should be, obscene..
Especially in the large cities(areas).. i.e. ghettos.. partial ghettos, and near ghettos..
p.s. white attacks on blacks seems to be extremely rare..
This cannot turn out good... civility is breaking down..
Lets make the wording the same for each;
Almost 40% of white males...
Almost 50% of black males...
A difference of a mere 10%. And most readers here bit right off on it.
In other words, a lot more overall white arrests than black arrests.
Methinks the author of this piece wants to stir things up a little.
40 percent of white males?
they are talking about “arrested” males.It will be interesting to see % of the black and white males in jail or been in jail.
“arrested” means nothing for the criminal point of view.
My sons were raised in an affluent area near Boston.
This was in the time of large families.
I know many boys who got arrested——once.
They are all respectable family men now with kids entering college.
It was the good old “Y” chromosome,I guess.

did they compare murder/theft/violent crime -vs- jaywalking?
With the stroke of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy’s pen, I was made a felon.
Luckily, for me and my family, I have left that god forsaken state. But it begs the question : I haven’t told CT that I have left with “their” guns. So I’m on the list now of people who have not registered.

Well somethin's being jiggled with that stat .. my rough reckoning makes that '40%' ~= to 8,750,000.
350M population / 2 = white population
175,000,000 / 2 = white male population
87,500,000 / 4 = white males < 25yo
21,875,000 * .40 = 8,750,000
Nope, don't buy it.
