Ex-NBA player says NKorea game dwarfed by politics

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) -- Former NBA star Charles D. Smith says he feels remorse for coming to Pyongyang with Dennis Rodman for a game on the North Korean leader's birthday because the event has been dwarfed by politics and tainted by Rodman's own comments.

Smith and other former NBA players are scheduled to play with Rodman against a team of North Koreans on Wednesday that organizers say leader Kim Jong Un is expected to attend. Many of the players on Tuesday privately expressed second thoughts about going ahead because of an outpouring of criticism back home in the United States.

Smith, who played for the New York Knicks, said the North Korea trip has been dwarfed by politics and Rodman's frequent boasts about his close friendship with Kim.

Dennis may soon find out what it means to be a “friend” of lil Kim.

The NBA players better make sure they lose, in a close game.

I doubt any of them had a clue what Rodman was getting them into or what the Norks are really about. They pretty much live in a bubble and hardly any of them graduated college.

Partnering with Dennis Rodman on a trip to North Korea? What a wonderful idea!

Hey Rodman ... don't piss off Lil' Kim or your friendship could go to the dogs.

BTW did I happen to mention that I think Rodman is a POS traitor and if I had my way I would let Lil' Kim have HIS way over that class A imbecile.

Sure seems that way. I know that these are ex-players, but I'm surprised someone from the league office, or someone in the media with a clue, like Charles Barkley, didn't get in touch with them and let them know what's what. It's not as if North Korea hasn't been in the news recently.

Guess the check from the DPRK basketball trust hasn’t cleared yet...or they discovered that Rodman kept all the cash from Kim Jong-un for himself.

I got to hand it to Chris Cuomo. That was some composure. Rodman tried several forms of blunt intimidation and Cuomo neatly rebuffed every one. It was like watching a martial arts expert dismantle a giant schoolyard bully.

I wonder if the NBA guys vs the NKs if they’ll be executed, perhaps both sides. Maybe safe to just let the NKs win.

Rodmen is crazy. I don't know what he was trying to do but he just totally destroyed any and all credibility he ever had here at home. Take a look at the faces of the other players around him. They were all thinking about their own survival while he was running his mouth. AND, what is it that he said??? He made some insinuations but said absolutely nothing. He just spouted anger and garbage.

I hope he makes a good bit of money off of the NK midget his ability to make any money in this country just went up in smoke. Speaking of smoke he looked and sounded stoned to me.
