Four Machinists ask NLRB to overturn last week’s vote (Boeing)

The separate complaints focus on the timing of the union vote that narrowly approved Boeing’s 777X contract extension.

Four individual Machinists at Boeing have filed separate complaints with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) seeking to overturn the 777X contract extension vote that passed by a slim margin last week.

Anne Pomerantz, NLRB regional attorney, said the agency will investigate the charges, gather evidence and decide if any action is warranted. The process typically takes approximately 12 weeks, she said.

The union members filed the unfair labor practices claims against the national headquarters of the International Association of Machinists (IAM), which forced the vote against the wishes of the union’s local district officials.

Pomerantz said the chief complaint is that the vote was scheduled for last Friday, Jan. 3. Many union members had added a couple of personal days to the regular Boeing winter break and were still on vacation.

Looks like some in the IAM local union are doing their best to have Boeing move the 777X production out of WA.

I hope one of the states that wants the business flies in a bunch of lawyers to assist them, and make a HUGE show of it.

“Looks like some in the IAM local union are doing their best to have Boeing move the 777X production out of WA. “

I spent several months working in Seattle with Boeing on FCS. I was astonished by the union’s bizarre attitude towards their meal ticket. It was nineteenth century communism. Boing is crazy to stay in Seattle. The whole state is unbelievably liberal (crazy.)

Yep, and organized unions wonder why they take so much flak.

This won’t end well no matter what happens next. These four are going to need a security detail.

Just suck it up and move, Boeing. Or rather announce that you are doing so. Bet the other machinists who approved the contract will “take care” of the problem...

I hope they hire a union one that takes a lot of breaks: “Hey, help, these guys are beating on me with baseball bats!” “Sorry, I am on my union contract mandated break. Will help in, oh, 15 minutes when it is over...”

Boeing needs to move to a right to work state and leave that bunch of useless union ‘workers’ behind.

Perhaps they are attempting to implement Kshama Sawant’s call for a worker takeover.

Interesting that the NATIONAL (office of the union) wanted the contract to be approved. Obviously they “get it”; otherwise Boeing would take its production elsewhere, ending tens of millions of annual dues dollars flowing to the National.

The LOCAL seems hell-bent on driving over a cliff, like Thelma & Louise. Perhaps most of the Local members figure they have enough to retire on, so, screw all the guys (and ladies) who might be affected by Boeing’s dumping the SEATAC area.

Yes, the local leadership and older members were dead set against another vote but from the previous articles it looked to me like the younger workers believed Boeing would go elsewhere if they voted the second offer down.

I personally believe that was right and still is.

I work weekends as a temp for a paper company. It's the mentality of the union workers to a T. When the machine breaks down, they take their time trying to get it running. We're supposed to take 15 min breaks every 3 hrs (I work in 12-hr shifts); they take 25 or even a half-hour break and complain at me saying why am I coming back to the line so soon.

I would never join a union, both private or public.
