The Illinois State Police said Tuesday that it had completed the initial approval of more than 13,000 concealed carry applications, moving residents a step closer to being able to carry loaded firearms in public.
Meanwhile, applications continued to pour in via the State Polices online registration site. The State Police received 1,089 applications Tuesday, for a total of 15,539.
To ensure that the applications are not denied unjustly, Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed a seven-member panel of federal prosecutors, FBI agents and judges to review objections raised by law enforcement. The board has another 30 days to review the rejected applications.

Obumbles should have offered a free gun permit with every ObamaCare payment. That would have juiced the enrollment numbers.

Several central Illinois counties (mine included) have state’s attornies who announced several months ago that they would not prosecute anyone for carrying a concealed weapon, that is anyone who possesses a FOID card - a requirement in Illinois to own or purchase guns or ammo. Nearly all gun owners have them.

If Illinios could set Crook county adrift in Lake Michigan they would and the state would be all the better for it.

Actually, it sounds like the panel is there to review and overturn rejections by local officials.
