Liberal "Nation" Magazine Freaking Over 'Racist' Seminole Mascot Winning BCS
Breitbart ^ | 1-8-2014 | C. Edmund Wright

Sports offers teachable insights into the leftist mindset, and even cursory observations verify that everything is political with these folks. This is unavoidable, I suppose, when your power is derived from electoral or public relation successes of the grievance industry.

Thus, we know for sure liberals could not simply enjoy Monday's BCS Title Game the way normal folks did. Having been dealt one setback after another in their quest to force the NFL's Washington Redskins to change their moniker, one of the nations leading liberal sports journalists (aren't they all?) has made it official: Florida State is now the cause du jour.

Now known as the Florida State S-Words.

Or just the ‘noles. Broadcasters can’t bring themselves to say Seminoles, but they can say ‘noles?

How insulting.

So, why weren’t the animal rights nuts freaking out over the Tigers/War Eagles playing for the title?

Yes, and in fact, "War Eagle" is a chant, NOT a mascot per se - but research indicates that itself has "injun" origins……something I ran out of space for in the article…….

It’s really simple. Nerds are afraid of jocks and they’re not good at ports o they ridicule it plus its hard to pass a football with a limp wrist.

I don’t think “Noles” is because they don’t want to say “Seminoles” - I think Noles has been used as shorthand for a long time, well before this controversy.

Kind of like “Devils” for Blue Devils and “heels” for Tar Heels and “Canes” for Hurricanes and “Tide” for Crimson Tide…etc.

FYI, ESPN would NOT say Redskins for a while…it was always Washington (and not “skins”) -

Dude…didn't you see "Revenge of the Nerds" - where the guy won the campus javelin with his "limp wristed" delivery…..which worked in concert with the nerd designed javelin???

LOL….

The complainers are out of luck. There isn't any problem.

Seminole Tribe honors 'Osceola and Renegade' at parade, rodeo
Tuesday, January 7, 2014

Osceola and Renegade, the legendary and deeply beloved symbols of Florida State football, were recently honored by the Seminole Tribe of Florida as the grand marshals of a parade to kick off the 74th Annual Brighton Field Days Festival and Rodeo.

“In order to preserve the dignity of our portrayal of Osceola and Renegade, we normally don’t make any appearances outside of Florida State football games,” said Durham, who portrayed Osceola while he was a Florida State student. “But certainly with the Seminole Tribe requesting it, we were absolutely honored and most definitely said ‘yes’ to this very special request.”

The appearance of Osceola and Renegade at the parade was so well received that Seminole Tribe officials invited Osceola to plant the spear prior to the festival’s rodeo, which was held on Feb. 19.

“We were elated to be asked to do that — to plant the spear on a Seminole Indian reservation,” Durham said.

Just another Red Herring from the radical left.

They can brag about nothing. They must make trouble for others. It is a very sick form of political relativism. It is called LIBERALISM.

I respectfully disagree…I think the sports/cultural wars are perhaps the best way to illustrate the liberal mindset about the serious stuff…..

and in South Carolina they say ‘go Cocks’ as a way of showing support the USC Gamecocks. It was kind of a shocker when this west coast boy landed in Union, SC. and saw the various signs and banners.

In fact, as a Gamecock alum…..I might have been the one who wrote this fraternity sign (they used to hang them IN the stadium during the game):- for a game against Southrn Cal:

“No Trojans Can Hold Our Big Cocks”

I haves done my research yet..but I get the sense that Minstrelsy may not in fact even be a word.

it will not likely follow the "word" DUH into the Oxford Dictionary!

Auburn does have three Eagle mascots, including "War Eagle VI", named Tiger, a 33-year old Golden Eagle which recently had cataract surgery. Of course, the program is named the Tigers. I'm not sure if they're official, but darned sure I'd know if I lived in Alabama :)

Hope you're well. Good piece.
