Liberal "Nation" Magazine Freaking Over 'Racist' Seminole Mascot Winning BCS
Breitbart ^ | 1-8-2014 | C. Edmund Wright

Sports offers teachable insights into the leftist mindset, and even cursory observations verify that everything is political with these folks. This is unavoidable, I suppose, when your power is derived from electoral or public relation successes of the grievance industry.

Thus, we know for sure liberals could not simply enjoy Monday's BCS Title Game the way normal folks did. Having been dealt one setback after another in their quest to force the NFL's Washington Redskins to change their moniker, one of the nations leading liberal sports journalists (aren't they all?) has made it official: Florida State is now the cause du jour.

I was surprised the game was even televised.

An example of an 'NCAA approved' Indian mascot that doesn't stereotype Native Americans .....

Chief Osceola plants the 'flaming spear' into the football field turf as a part of the pre-game ritual of the Florida State Seminoles ....

Chief Osceola, the FSU mascot, has face paint, a flaming spear and rides bareback on an Appaloosa horse ... none of which have any connection to Seminole history.

"The N.C.A.A. executive committee continues to believe the stereotyping of Native Americans is wrong," Bernard Franklin, the association's senior vice president for governance and membership, said in a statement. "However, in its review of the particular circumstances regarding Florida State, the staff review committee noted the unique relationship between the university and the Seminole Tribe of Florida as a significant factor."

ROTFLMAO. What a tangled, mangled and jangled web the liberals weave .... they're pretzels over this 'hostile' 'abusive' sports team mascot PC nonsense. You're right, when they force this grievance industry poop into the world of sports, it does offer great teachable insight into the leftist 'mind'.

You are correct. I’ve seen Noles used for decades.

Yes - I know - but it’s confusing - they have the mascots that are eagles…but their official mascot…as in what they are called, is Tiger. “War Eagle” is a war cry, or chant, and not an official mascot per se, but they are easier to keep around than Tigers.

It’s like Bama having a pachyderm as the animal, but official mascot name is Crimson Tide. or Georgia Tech…the Yellow Jackets, but also the “Ramblin Wreck.”

We should erase all knowledge of American Indians that way nobody gets their feelings hurt or offended!

On another sarcasm note, all extremist should be killed.

The eyes of that Appaloosa look like it’s just seen a large eastern diamondback or a ghost, or both.

Anyway, does anyone remember the PC war over the Dartmouth Indians hockey mascot back in the 1980’s? That didn’t end well IIRC. Liberals are intolerant fascists, bottom line.

Indeed. Frankly, I wish they’d change it. Golden Eagles are awesome. And an elephant as a mascot would be every bit as good.

as a Gamecock alum…..

I remember going to the 1987 Gator Bowl when South Carolina played LSU and their fans were chanting “Nobody can beat our Cocks!” Of course it wasn’t true as LSU destroyed them -:)

The New Zealand Blacks rugby team needs to re-name their team pronto! I suggest the New Zealand Polar Bear Hunters or New Zealand Knockout Kings.

“I get the sense that Minstrelsy may not in fact even be a word.”

Seems like they meant to say “minstrelry” but were too dim to notice they spelled it wrong.

Unless things have changed in the last couple of years the Seminole Tribe in Florida supports FSU in their use of this mascot.

Oh, the lib spelt it right in the article….I think this kind of thing is an obsession with him….

I had never seen that form of the word minstrel….then again, I don’t see a minstrel and hear a dog whistle under every right wing rock…...

You are correct. The Ocseolas (the queen as of last year I believe), are ardent supports of FSU.

Political Correctness is applied as liberals see fit. It is forbidden to offend ANYONE, unless of course they’re Christian, or conservative, or whatever suits their need.

As an alumnus of Illinois I am totally ticked off that the Seminole mascot is okay with the NCAA but Chief Illiniwek is not. The Chief has been portrayed very respectfully in the same way it appears that the Seminole portrayal has been. It’s interesting that you pointed out that the Seminole tribe that gave them a vote of confidence isn’t even totally legit.

I either wish that we could find enough Illini tribe members to hold a vote or that we could get Notre Dame to drop their totally derogatory “Fighting Irish” moniker.

The entire explanation of why the lib from The Nation doesn’t accept the Tribal Council’s endoresment is the crux of this piece….and shows the libtard thinking on it.

The difference is that FSU is a conservative school for the most part, and they’d just tell the NCAA where to stick it…while Illinois is supported by a bunch of lib weenies who probably agree with the PC crowd on this…..

That statement by the executive committee is the type of pablum that makes us cringe at the NCAA and other mindless bureaucrats…..
