Officials in Canada said a derailed freight train carrying crude oil and propane continued to burn Wednesday morning, while they prepared to launch aerial surveillance and more than 100 residents remained evacuated from their homes. There were no deaths or injuries.
The biggest concern is the propane cars, the fire chief of the nearby community of Plaster Rock, Tim Corbin, said Wednesday morning, according to CBC News. Thats our biggest concern because if they happen to explode, were looking at major damage.
The derailment late Tuesday in a sparsely populated region of New Brunswick again raised concerns about the increasing use of rail to transport oil throughout North America. In July, 47 people were killed in Lac-Megantic, Quebec, when a train carrying crude oil derailed.

Thank-you Obama for derailling the pipeline!
CN train carrying crude oil derailed, on fire near Plaster Rock
CN Rail says 16 cars derailed, 8 carrying dangerous goods and one locomotive
First responders unable to approach the fire amid safety concerns
Hazardous material responders expected to arrive overnight
No injuries reported
A helicopter is being brought in today to pinpoint what is ablaze in the wreckage of the 122-car train that jumped the tracks about 7 p.m. local time yesterday near the town of Plaster Rock, said Jim Feeny, a railroad spokesman. There are 14 cars and a locomotive in the fire zone, Feeny said.
This morning, very soon, we will have aerial surveillance, Feeny said by telephone. We will be able to get ground forces in, safely, closer to the cars, and determine exactly what is on fire. That will determine what we and local authorities need to do to develop the response plan.
“Shivering Canadians stand next to the smoldering ruins and warm their hands...”
An “undesired brake application” caused Tuesday night’s derailment in New Brunswick of a Canadian National Railway train carrying crude oil and propane tanker cars, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said on Wednesday
Whatch for the liberal media saying this new disaster is no reason to build a pipeline. Meanwhile every time a gnat sneezes it’s an excuse to drive THEIR agenda.
Bill Gates (major investor in CN), like Warren Buffett (major investor in BNSF), loves transporting oil by rail instead of much safer pipelines.
Buffet owns BN outright.
With very good reason, the below was a huge disaster.
We buy a lot of lumber from Twin Rivers Forest Products in Plaster Rock, NB. I am sure this will screw up rail traffic again for the next couple weeks, just like the last time.
Is this yet another new one? There was one last week, is this a new one?
Another Obama disaster.
Guessing with absolutely no information, I would suspect cold related in either equipment failure or operator taking shortcuts.
Wow! That was a WTF story! Definitely an out of control situation.
This happened yesterday.
Right. It slipped my mind that he bought the rest of it a couple of years ago.
This is two in as many months, I believe.
What’s going on?
