Skip to comments.House GOP writing 'principles' for immigration reform

WASHINGTON House speaker John A. Boehner told rank-and-file Republicans that his leadership team was drafting principles for overhauling immigration laws that will be presented in coming weeks.
Boehner made the remarks Wednesday during the first private meeting of House Republicans in the new year. House Republicans have struggled to respond to the Senate's immigration bill that passed in June, which would create a path to citizenship for 11 million immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally. Boehner refused to bring the Senate bill up for a vote in the House last year and instead said the House should consider a series of narrower measures.
"We are working on a standards or principles document," Boehner said, according to a person in the room granted anonymity to discuss the private session. The document is being drafted by Boehner, his leadership team, including House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), as well as other members interested in the issue.
House Republican leaders believe that the GOP needs to support an immigration overhaul to woo Latino voters in advance of the 2016 presidential election.

Is it just me, or is it a fact that if you have to write down principles for particular issues, then they cannot really be principles...
Principles are from the heart, they are non-negotiable, you should never expect anyone to compramise them either...
So why do these republican party leaders believe they can dictate principles???
This is truely an example of these elected officials being out of touch with reality...
It does not surprise me either who is behind this effort...
Anything to help the administration keep the failures of ObamaCare off the public radar...
11 months and counting...
Does anyone besides me find that comment hysterically funny? Not what it means, mind you -- that's the death of the Republican Party and quite possibly the Republic as we know it -- but whoever knew that this idiot had standards or principles of any kind?
If they do this, they will lose their cush jobs. Illegals will not vote for them and neither will people like me.
The Chamber of Commerce wins, citizens lose.
If they keep winning elections, are they not in tune with the majority who show up for elections?
You’d think that such “position” papers would have been done already.
It is not a new subject.
Immigration reform is about greed.
Immigration reform is about money.
Immigration reform is about supply and demand.
Increase the supply of labor and demand falls, wages fall, your wages fall.
Ask yourself why the government CHOOSES to not enforce immigration law?
The political donor class and the employer class hold the reins of the government through how the political parties are funded. These are the people who are demanding the government ignore parts of immigration law.
Greed, plain and simple.
Increase the labor supply and the amount you have to pay people goes down, and you no longer need to treat them very well, because there are MILLIONS of hungry fearful people who will put up with it because the supply of jobs shrinks relative the number of people looking for work.
Thats a ‘win win’ for the employer class and the political donor class.
Once again the middle class is being squeezed for the benefit of the few, follow the money.
Any politician who pushes immigration reform without demanding the laws on the books be enforced is an enemy of your future, an enemy of your childs future.
Those politicians are doing the work of the employer class and the political donor class, society and culture be damned.
Dare to speak against them and you will be labeled ‘racist’ by the media, a media controlled by the employer class and the political donor class.
The government no longer is about public service, it is about the money.
When the government is free to select which laws to enforce, with the blessing of the courts your freedom vanishes.
And there is no one to vote for who could/would fix it, from either party.
We are so screwed.
What I wonder is how do you win a debate by giving in to the Rats?
IOW: The end of 2014 voter support of the Republican Party is currently being drafted by loyal Obamacrat RINOs Boehner, Cantor, and Goodlatte - - - .
From almost a year ago...
Personally, I do not believe there are enough people, even here, that will remember ANY of this in 11 months...
Especially those voters in Ohio, Cantor-ville, Lindsey Graham-town...etc etc etc...
When folks from those districts, and other voters in republican capitulating districts (across the entire country) can admit they were fooled, and be committed to make the proper adjustments when the time comes, maybe we’ll survive as a nation...
Personally, I do not believe those people have the guts to remember, much less toss these schumps out on the street in November 2014...
I would love to be proven wrong...
But I am not going to waste my time holding my breath hoping for others to finally have that lightbulb go off above their heads...
It’s the same old Pen Yada yada yada yada yada...
Not supposed to...
What they are writing are talking points on how to con the American
I’m beginning to wonder if Boehner, in some of his many drunken binges, didn’t take some side trips down “the hershey highway” and become subject to blackmail. I don’t know how to otherwise explain his obsession with betraying us.
It’s always about amnesty. Everything else is window dressing or bull$h!t.
Stupid liars. If they had passed enforcement laws they could now do ‘reform’ and get away unscathed.
But they were afraid of losing their donors if they enforced immigration laws.
Now they’ll pass ‘reform’ and lose their voters, their majority, and their donors too.
Get ready to melt the DC phone lines again, y’all.
Here is my principle. If you vote for amnesty for invaders you can kiss my ass.
THe House GOP leadership has no principles. PERIOD.
I would not be very surprised to learn the Boner is Obunghole’s butt buddy.
The GOP acts as though we currently have no immigration laws.
One day the gov is begging to extend 2 years of unemployment ran out to be extended and the next day wanting 11 million plus millions more illegals here to steal jobs and benefits from this country. And after any reform when more illegals start showing up it will be the same thing. They may get vote. They are flushing this country right down the toilet.
Hey, I have one; it even includes amnesty! If you are here Illegally you have 2 months to get out of our country before we hunt you down!
WE don’t want illegals in our country taking our jobs.
Hundreds of people applied for a job at an ice cream factory... it’s awful in the country outside of Washington DC where the crooks rob us to live well...
We the citizens of this country do NOT want illegals made into citizens. It’s a slap in the face.
I wish I had confidence in conservative voters. Many will stay home. Some will vote for the incumbent. Some will vote for a “D”. Many, many will do nothing between now and the election in November to save our country. So many just Don’t care.
Vote out the RINOs in 2014. They’re worse than Democrats!
Here's principle for Boehner: "People who break into my home are NOT 'undocumented guests' they're thieves.
People who break into my country are NOT undocumented citizens - they're criminals.
It's against the law to break into a home or a country.
That's a friggin' "principle'. And it's already law Boeher.
So give up the big buck donations from people paying you to screw over the American people and follow the law that's on the books.
What difference do ‘tough’ laws make when they choose to enforce only those laws they want to?
The federal government has become a cancer on the body of the nation.
If the Republicans are stupid enough to embrace amnesty then it is time for a third party.
Which would be electoral suicide. But, at least, suicide with honor. Better than voting for traitors.
Yeah, I started to say “big donors”.
They’re, as you say, like ‘clients’ and the politicians their agents.
Since the GOPe responded to “primarying” with such offense
I’ve come to believe that running a conservative third=party candidate against a few of the worst RINOs would do more good than harm.
The lesson would be taken to heart by the GOPe.
Principle No. 1: Amnesty
Principle No. 2: No more principles
There, John. I did it for you.
You mean you don't believe and value vital items like "1,000 new border guards", or "a fence within the next 10 years", or "new tough penalties"?.
You don't believe these awesome promises will totally outweigh the impact of legalizing 20 million third-world illegals and opening the floodgates with vast new legal visa categories?
I think taking out Boehner, Cantor and Ryan will be hard.
But take out Grimm, Duffy, Kinzinger, Jenkins, Sessions and a few others.
Rising stars, lapdogs and Boehner’s inner circle.
Rubio and Schumer had a list of principles and even Steve King agreed with all of them except citizenship. Then people bothered to read Rubio’s bill.
Here’s a “principal” for you.
Dear Senator Ron Johnson (Backstabbing RINO-WI) and Representative Thomas Petri (R-WI), if you vote for amnesty, I will spend every evening and every weekend gathering signatures for your recall. First in Ozaukee county, and then in the city of Milwaukee. EVERY! EFFING! DAY!
Jesus H. Christ on a pogo-stick, what the hell is wrong with the GOP-e? Did Obama’s NSA catch each and every one of them in bed with a dead girl or a live boy?
I hope they will “refer this urgent issue to a committee for further study”. I’d say at least a decade of studies would be needed, perhaps even including environmental impact studies.
The repubkican party leadership is committing political suicide, that almost goes unsaid...
The real kicker is that they do not believe they are doing anything to jeopardize their political future, because they believe you, the voters are too stupid and cowardly to replace them...
It really is that simple...
And in most cases, and districts in this country, they are right on the money...
They do not believe this is giving away any soverienty, any real economic impact, unless it benefits those businesses that are looking for the cheap labor...
What they are doing is taking up the good ole boy attitude that Clayton Williams (TX) stated way back in the day in reference to rape, and how women should just lay back and enjoy it...
Down here in Texas, we are already seeing the attacks from the Cornyn camp against his main adversary for the US Senate, in Steve Stockman...No matter what his faults are, the fact that the Cornyn Camp is going to these lengths to go negative in their campaign to stay in power is very telling...
I’m not championing Stockman, I have known him for years, and helped him in his first campaign back in ‘93, and found him to be idealistic and ready to get to work...the liberals targeted him as much as they wanted to kill Tom delay back in the same timeframe...Stockman was just some fruit hangin a little lower and easier to get to...And look what happened...We eventually lost both...
Its happening everywhere...Across the country conservatives are being attacked by not only the liberals, but the GOPe’s...
This election cycle is not going to be a mandate, oit will be a cause for survical of this Representative Republic, but to do so, the voters are going to have to give up their comfort zone, and get rid of these entrenched moderate republicans...
It ain’t going to be easy for most people...They do not like to be wrong...So if those people can at least make the trip and admit we were all fooled, then getting rid of them will be soooooo much easier...
We can do this, if we call their bluff...the voters are not apathetic and we are NOT cowards...
