Battling cancer again, Sen. Tom Coburn may cut short his term
Politico ^ | 01/09/2014 | Manu Raju

Sen. Tom Coburn doesn’t seem like a typical cancer patient.

The Oklahoma Republican often arrives in his office two hours before his aides, sometimes as early as 4 a.m. He attends virtually all of his committee hearings. And in the evenings, he either dines with his senator buddies at Capitol Hill establishments or attends his weekly meetings of Christians, conservatives and others at his well-known C Street house.

But for the past several months, the 65-year-old Coburn has privately been undergoing intensive treatment for a recurrence of prostate cancer, a battle that could end up cutting short his second Senate term, which is scheduled to expire in January 2017.

Good luck to you, Tom, fighting cancer. This should be your number one priority. Perhaps it’s time to retire and beat this disease.

Recurring prostate cancer....

Been there, doing that, and prayers for his recovery.

If he retires I’m sure OK has some solid replacements.

The best to he and his family. Would be a huge loss.

Prayers for his recovery.

Having said that.. I hope he does cut short his term and we can get someone more Conservative in.

His last 4 years have been a trainwreck.

I am ready for a new Senator.

His last 4 years have been a trainwreck.

It goes back a lot farther than 4 years. I heard him interviewed once a couple of years ago. He ranted and raved about how we "had to get spending, debt and deficits under control or we risk the collapse of our economy". Then, in the very next breath, he went on to plead that we "must save Socialist (in)Security and Medicare". (two of the biggest drivers of spending, debt and deficits)

I agree with you.

I’ll rephrase. I have just been paying more attention to him the past 4 or 5 years.

He’s voted for big money bailouts, for gun control, for amnesty.. and on and on and on.. I’ve called his office many a times and chewed them up and down...

In addition to that he voted FOR Janet Yellen for Fed Chair.

The sooner this guy is out the better off we’ll be.

LOL. When he originally ran he was painted by the Democrat establishment media as a far Right Conservative LUNATIC! Check it out. It just goes to show you what too much time in DC does.

Term Limits NOW!!!!

2 Five year terms for Senate
5 Two year terms in Congress

PLUS: NO DC or DC Lobby job for 5 years when your terms are over.

This would HELP wipe out the STENCH and distrust of DC.

Tom’s biggest mistake, IMO, was not vetting Obama when both were on the Senate Judiciary in 2008. Instead, the committee focused on John McCain. If Tom is terminal, I hope he will acknowledge that and expose Obama.

He's a good man so it'd be a loss to humanity if he passes, but Ok could get a more conservative senator.

Totally agree. Ok can do better. But I wonder, does the gov appoint? If so, look out.

Plus, No Retirement Benefit. Having to earn retirement benefits outside of gov’t office will encourage them to get in & get out again.

No, Thank goodness she would not appoint. Position would be filled by a special election.

Now.. just like in NJ there is a possibility there could be a gap in between when he retires and when the election is held.

She could appoint an interim to serve during that time.

I agree with YOU! He WAS conservative, then started wavering. He trashed Ted Cruz, et al and has begun the McCain/Graham line dance. It is sickening to watch! This proves that good intentions can go very wrong when you stay in DC too long. He said he believed in term limits, then he jumped from one (House) to the other (Senate). Sorry, but that is a dirty trick! I do like his research that he does on government waste, but it never goes anywhere. He doesn’t follow through with proposed legislation to curb it. A waste of time if you are NOT going to act on it.

He was originally quite a conservative, seemed to be another Helms, then he joined the McC faction and was never again reliable politically.
