Chris Christie Fires 'Stupid' and 'Deceitful' Staffer, Apologizes to New Jersey
US News ^ | 01/09/2014 | REBEKAH METZLER

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was unequivocal in his condemnation of the actions taken by some of his staffers last fall to exact political retribution by closing George Washington Bridge traffic lanes and causing major backups, but he continued to deny any prior knowledge of the plot in a press conference Thursday.

Christie began by apologizing to the people of Fort Lee and New Jersey, and said he would be traveling to Fort Lee later Thursday to repeat his sentiment directly to the most affected community.

"I am embarrassed and humiliated by the conduct of some of the people on my team," Christie said.

Christie said he fired [Deputy Chief of Staff] Kelly Thursday morning for lying to him and has asked Bill Stepien, his former campaign manager, to withdraw from taking over as New Jersey Republican Party chairman. Christie also said he advised against the Republican Governors Association – of which Christie serves as chairman – using Stepien as a political consultant.

He then pulls the same Obama schtick by maintaining he DIDN’T KNOW of the plot.

So almost all of the Left-wing media has lauded Christie for taking responsibility.

What does that tell us boys and girls?

They won’t need anyone to hire them in the future. They will either be bought out or they will write the tell-all book of all time.

I’m not a Christie supporter by any means but the difference here is when he was caught, he actually fired someone. Fxck nuts in the WH won’t fire anyone regardless of how bad they are.

Got an email saying that Christie didn’t sleep for two nights when he heard about it. Problem is he didn’t hear about it until a day later. So who’s lying?

Bingo!

They will do everything in their power, as usual, to build up candidates that are the most sure to lose or they will not provide any vetting to the same type of candidate.

The media is not our friends.

The media is the Propaganda arm of the DNC.

As I wrote on another thread...

On Christie’s assertion that he didn’t know about the traffic incident....

Any cursory investigation of his staff in regards to the bridge lane closures would have revealed the e-mails and their culpability in the matter.

Christie did not investigate the allegations that his staff was involved in the bridge lane closures.

Christie did not investigate the allegations because he didn’t want to know the truth.

Christie didn’t want to know, because he already knew...Christie himself was behind the bridge lane closures.

ANYONE who thinks or says otherwise is either extremely naive, or lying...either-or—pick one.

That’s because Christie isn’t prez yet. He still needs to get there before he can do that.

It’s trickle down. They must have thought he’d be fine with it.

Before immunity is granted, the ones granting immunity always want to hear what will be said before granting immunity. So if he is given immunity, it could very well be a testimony that will indict Christie. I say give him immunity. Let us hear what he has to say.

I might add that immunity requires the truth be told. If he is found to be lying at a later date, then the immunity that was granted is revoked, and he can then be prosecuted, even after he testifies and incriminates himself.

......over the centuries, U.S. & British Navy Ship Commanders have been fired many times The situation with Christie here is analogous.

In some, if not most, of those Navy situations, it often seemed wholly unfair to the Captain or Commander of the vessel to be FIRED as he often was down in his bunk after non stop days on duty taking a well deserved nap. But, the principle of “your the Captain, your responsible”, most of the time prevailed and the Captain/Commander was fired or resigned.

In my opinion, Christie firing others is embarrassing and humiliating and he should resign for that. Then, he can go back to lawyering where accountability is a very vague notion for dreamers.

Yeah, right. Christie may not have known of the specifics, but obviously, the people under him thought this was okay and he would have approved except for legal reasons he had to be kept out of the loop. They wouldn’t have done it if they hadn’t felt he would have approved.

I never liked the man because I always found something creepy about him. This was even before he sucked up to Obama or all the other strange things he’s done, and I never knew why the GOP-E liked him so much. But I think it’s going to be really hard for them to defend him now.

As the WSJ pointed out, if we don’t like Obama using the IRS to attack political opponents, why should we like a governor using a highway authority to attack opponents? This is truly a strange case. I hope it puts the nail in Christie’s large coffin.

Christie has known about this for months because it’s been in the press for months (I read the NY press because I’m from NYC). But he only fired someone today when hard evidence came out. He denied it all before then.

He’s a lying weasel. His underlings wouldn’t have done this unless they thought he’d approve, which shows you exactly what kind of person he is. We don’t need another Obama, even if he has an R after his name.

RE: I never knew why the GOP-E liked him so much.

There was a time early in his first term when he fought the unions to bring some sense of fiscal sanity into the NJ budget.

He proved himself a fighter then who went from NJ Townhall to Townhall answering the objections of teachers, students and labor union leaders eloquently.

His townhalls became viral when they were posted at YouTube.

Then, many thought he was like Wisconsin’s Scott Walker.

Then, near the fourth year of his term, something happened to him that DISAPPOINTED everyone.

For one, he refused to oppose Obamacare. Then, he buddied around with Obama after Hurricane Sandy struck. THAT WAS DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE Presidential elections when Romney needed his help.

He also inexplicably SIGNED THE BILL to outlaw therapy for Homosexuals (these were gays VOLUNTARILY asking for therapy, not being forced to it ). With this, he alienated many conservative Christians.

The last straw was his recent signing of a bill to give ILLEGAL ALIENS in-state tuition.

Then this scandal....

Even if Christie said, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?", communicating this stuff in e-mails wasn't a brilliant move. Don't they teach about "Watergate" in school any more? I rate her a "minus 10" on smarts, I don't know if Christie is any more deceitful, or vicious, than the average New Jersey governor.

He had no access to emails?

They were staffer's personal e-mails and text messages, not NJ state e-mails. (When my wife worked for the state of NJ, she refused to use her personal e-mails and cell phone, she only used the state e-mails for state business. Probably one reason why she's happily retired now, and not a political appointee in charge of her agency.)

All you need to know about Christie’s character and fitness for the presidency is revealed by his use of “stupid” as the first adjective that came to mind when he talked about the fired appointee in that article.

Stupid is a forgotten dental appointment. Stupid is not glancing right before you pull over into the next lane.

Closing that bridge wasn’t “stupid” — it was venal, vicious, childish, immoral, and endangered public safety.

“Stupid” only describes how the bridge closure is now affecting the governor and his hapless appointees — not how it affected New Jersey residents. I’m guessing “stupid” isn’t the first word that comes to mind if you were trapped on that bridge.

“Stupid” was putting it in e-mails. “Stupid” was thinking you wouldn’t get caught.

Yeah, it’s all about you, governor. Victimized by stupid staffers. If we take you at your word that you didn’t know about it, then we also have to observe that everybody else figured it out. You didn’t, so you’re too “stupid” to be governor, let alone president.

To support this guy as president now, knowing what is known about his character — now, that really would be stupid.

“If you are going to engage in dog fight politics why would you write about it for the whole world to see?”

Exactly, you don’t have be James Bond to figure that out.

This was all very petty and despicable. I live in NJ, it’s great to know that those running the show (paid for by OUR money) think my life and time are basically valueless. We’ve got enough criminals here to provide that function.

This is a major screw-up, and I wouldn’t count on it just going away, regardless of who he fired, etc. Sure, if he was a Dem it would be different, but maybe not for the public even if it was for the press.

People hate sh*t like this, and for good reason.
