Maybe we should be preserving Arab dhows or slaveships instead.
Odungoville
B-but the Federal government went back into business and the debt ceiling was raised, and everything is dunky hory./s
Hey Obama, you disgusting self-indulgent vanity -— how about contributing the cost of just ONE of your junket vacations? Or, even, how about having your wide-bodied wife fly back WITH you for a change, and put the cost of her separate flights to good use?
Gee. There was $4M ear marked for this but it got spent in Hawai’i recently on some sort of special mission or something....
I think with the debt we have, this should be cut, along with about 500 billion of other stuff too.
Plus, it will be more efficiently run with private money.
Maybe we should be preserving Arab dhows or slaveships instead.
NASA probably has a line item in their budget for that....
Bet none of the big wheels are going to take any cuts in the their pay, benefits, retirement packages or perks.
It’s not the governments job in my book. This should be a privately funded endeavor.
It’s interesting that because of lack of funding they are putting the artifacts “to sleep”, covering them up, turning out the lights and not letting anyone see them.
I would think it would be more effective to put them to sleep but still allow visitors to view them.
Of course - with signs up all around saying preservation has halted do to lack of funding.
Another government blackmail item stomp feet attitude.
If we dont get our money to control you, fck your national security.
Time to sell it to a private investor. The job will actually get done then, and he or she will still probably exhibit the final product.
Exactly.
The Navy raised the Monitor as a sort of enhanced training exercise. It’s time for a group to form, raise money & eventually exhibit the Monitor relics. Otherwise, they never should have raised it in the first place. (that’s my frustration showing).
Here in NJ the battleship New Jersey is facing similar financial issues (it didn’t help that they dodcked it in Camden, which is half jungle/half abandoned wasteland). The fact is that an increasing number of “Americans” don’t even have roots going back 30 years in this country, and relics from WASP America don’t mean anything at all to them.
Because it was involved in a War about Slavery. zero & just us boy are upset
How comes Obama’s vacations are never threatened because of lack of federal funds?
I am not sure this is the federal government’s job. I think it is the job of worthy citizens to step forward and fundraise.
I believe the Hundley was restored using mostly donations.
