They sure dont make political scandals like they used to.
In 1903, the sitting lieutenant governor of South Carolina shot and killed the editor of the states largest newspaper in broad daylight, in front of the State House. Jim Tillman believed the papers attacks cost him his bid for governor.
He was acquitted in a trial controlled by his uncle former governor and then U.S. Sen. Pitchfork Ben Tillman. He literally got away with murder.
Now that was a scandal.
Yesterday Gov. Chris Christie held a 107-minute presser responding to a story about the politically motivated closure of several traffic lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge.
When I put bridge or tunnel in a sentence with political scandal Im thinking grand juries and any random day during the Big Dig. But a traffic jam?
I used to live in Jersey City. And I can tell you from personal experience that a good day on the GWB is like the worst day on the MassPike.
Was this a stupid, petty political stunt? Absolutely. But as Christie said yesterday, quoting our own Tip ONeill, politics aint beanbag.
Im with GOP campaign guru Mike Murphy:
While in this case [Christies] wagon-fixers may have gone overboard, I doubt many people will be that shocked, shocked that hardball is alive and well in New Jersey.
More specifically, Republicans in Iowa and New Hampshire are unlikely to lose any sleep over the idea of a nominee whose staff enjoys making New Jersey Democrats unhappy.
I dont want a Republican Tony Soprano who plays rough, said no GOP primary voter ever.
The liberal medias desperation to...

I was wondering the same thing.
Whatsamatter? Dont youse speak poifect english?
Democrat projection. Dems LOVE politicians who cheat and play hardball, and even break the law, in order to advance the "progressive" agenda.
Christie fell for the concern trolls of the Democrat Party and Media. He appeased and pandered to them for nearly two hours. He did nothing to quell the non-problem (compared to what Obama has done in the last 5 years).
He only succeeded in confirming to them that they can kill his candidacy for the Presidency any time they want.
From the article “[I]f the facts are as presented, then what we saw yesterday was that rarest of creatures: A Republican politician who is good at politics.”
I saw Christie speak in person once, to a very small crowd of campaign volunteers. He was great, he truly has a gift from God - regardless of one’s view of him - he has the ability to make you think he is speaking directly to you. I came home and said to hubby “no wonder everyone says he should run for president!”

I think the author’s been in the northeast for too long.
I’m unamused and entirely fed up with the liars, cheats and thieves that make up our political class.
Harassing citizens by abusing the power of one’s office may be a cute, acceptable stunt to some, but not to me. It isn’t okay when Obama does it, and it isn’t okay when Christie or anyone else does it, either.
HA!!!! Exactly what I've thought. This President has had one REAL scandal after another not the least is Obamacare still playing out. And the media is focus on a traffic jam. Why not Obama suing the Little Sisters of the Poor?
This is just another diversion to tarnish the Republicans.
I couldn’t care less if they threw that anti-gun liberal slob on a spit and BBQ his a$$.
No Speeka da Ingleesh,poppy.
I think you mean Bobby Bacala....
My opinion!!! They already have the smoking gun.....but why use it on a governor when in a couple years you can take down the republican candidate for president!!!
