Gov. Chris Christie’s load of bull: Fired aide Bridget Kelly merely a patsy

Gov. Chris Christie’s load of bull: Fired aide Bridget Kelly merely a patsy in attempt to shelter Port Authority cronies, himself

What did the governor know about the George Washington Bridge lane closures, and when did he know it? Ex-Port Authority executive David Wildstein pleaded the Fifth Wednesday, so we wait until an independent investigation can reveal the whole story.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s one-hour-and-forty-seven-minute self-serving, self-pitying display of contrition on Thursday was a climactic act in a brazen cover-up that threatens to further unravel his political career.

Ever so thoroughly the governor scoured the thesaurus for words of apology, regret and painless self-flagellation while nervily playing the victim and mercilessly destroying the aide who played only a supporting role for the George Washington Bridge political revenge plot. Christie needed blood to express his outrage to the public, so he drew it from deputy chief of staff Bridget Kelly for the sin, the governor said, of lying to him. Perhaps, Kelly did lie, although it seems incredible that anyone would flat-out attempt to deceive an intense, emergency inquiry.

Regardless, Christie made roadkill of Kelly and his former campaign manager while wholly exempting the close pals who were central to the lane-closure conspiracy that caused four days of gridlock and dangerously slowed emergency response in Fort Lee. Pathetic.

The governor gave three truly guilty parties, David Wildstein, Bill Baroni and David Samson, passes. Each is a Christie lieutenant who held a high position at the authority. While their exact roles are still hidden — and Christie saw no reason to inquire about them — each either engineered, concealed or did nothing about the interstate transportation outrage.

Benghazi, the IRS, the NSA, Fast & Furious, etc.

Moral equivalency never goes anywhere, and certainly not when the events happened to the other party. It hints at excusism: he did it, so why can't we?

Obama is a lying murderer but that doesn’t matter. We just have to clear the table for Hitlery to ascend to her throne.

Well, Kelly can sign up for unemployment next week. Who knows, she might even get the extended benefits, if those dang Republicans quit obstructing poor Harry Reid in his effort to give the unemployed a source of income.

Here's the problem...When the bridge was closed and everything disrupted, you can't tell me Christie wasn't on the phone to everyone involved.

Didn't any reporter ax fat boy that question during this marathon of a presser?

Kinda like what was obama doing during the whole night when a US consulate was under attack by an unruly mob, incited by a porn video, and the US Ambassador and three other Americans were left to be slaughtered by mooselimbs.

Why are three lanes of traffic more critical than 4 American lives?

I hate the drive by media and all their cronies.

That’s the daily news, a left-leaning rag written for low-intelligence people with a limited command of the English language and who speak only in words of 1 or 2 syllables.

Sounds like a description of the NJ voters who voted for Christie.

And Christie’s a patsy.

This stupid mafia tactics story took Gates right off the pages

If the DNC or BO admin had it on ice just for a special occasion it would not be surprising

Christie won’t be able to cry about his BFF, Obie’s betrayal to anyone, not even his own wife.

There won't be any e-trail leading to Christie. Politicians hire people who know what the politicians want

Exactly. I used to work in the business. If you are a high level staffer you can't do your job unless you know how to think like the boss. Once the boss is confident that you do think like him, you are given a wide latitude to make important decisions on your own. There's no doubt in my mind that Christie's operation had a culture of "the b^stards who mess with us will pay dearly." Once that is established, he can keep his hands clean of the dirty stuff.

It is nothing compared to what this admin does including pulling this stupid story out to get Gates off the page

A 91 yo died and her family is saying it wasn’t Christie’s fault

Six lawsuits have begun one for keeping a woman trapped in traffic for an hour

Is she kidding?

and now that Bridget [what an appropriate name] has taken the fall, he's probably drinking that Fifth.

Christie’s a patsy.

Exactly. NJ democrats get their Amnesty bill signed. Christie goes under the bus the very next day. Gates of the front page.

Christie messes with traffic on a bridge and his 2016 ambitions go up in smoke. Hillary lies about Benghazi and her complicity in the death of four Americans and her relationship with the muslim brotherhood and she’s still the dems frontrunner for 2016. Go figure. But I am happy to see Christie sidelined.

You disingenuously edited my quote in order to criticize it.

In its totality, my post was clearly not directed at excusing Christie. It was a dig at the Daily News and media in general over their sense of proportion and party biases.

I don't excuse the people involved in this at all.

There's nothing in that timeline that shows where Christie would have known about it. In the last day of the closures, the mayor of Fort Lee sent a note to the head of the PA, who likely knew what was going on and so would not move it up the ladder.

I live here. At the time, it was not some giant news story except on the traffic reports. Rush hour traffic nightmares at the Hudson river crossings do not make the news, or there'd be no room for anything else.

My point is only that your idea that Christie wasn't on top of the situation proves he's lying is incorrect. It does the exact opposite, adding credence to his story that he was in the dark. There is no reason in the world that a governor of NJ would be on top of a "there's a traffic jam in Fort Lee" problem unless he knew there were political shenanigans involved.

It’s terrible for Christie, because it undermines the whole POINT of Christie, which is that he uses sharp elbows and words for the power of good. Now that his sharp elbows have been revealed as usable for evil, what’s the point of him?

The point of Romney was that he was a spectacularly successful businessman, the point of Obama was that he was an inspirational but non-threatening black guy, the point of George Bush was the he was a regular dude despite being to-the-manor-born, Bill Clinton was the super-smart young guy, etc.

It’s also terrible for Karl Rove and Reince Priebus who were using Christie as a stalking horse for Jeb Bush.
