If there is a discrepancy, I can contest it the same way I contest a CC mistake.

I agree, and when it is settled, there is no difference. But before it is settled, the CC is waiting for you to pay; the DC is holding your money.

I have two accounts at my bank. One has no access other than me moving money via apps or a check. I move money into another one to cover the debit card on that account as needed. My transfers are instantaneous from my phone. Plus I have the best bank Starts with U end with A.

RE :”The immediate withdrawal is a benefit in my eyes. I changed banks to get that feature.”

Why is that good?, versus a credit card delayed bill?

Because you have a wife and kids you cant say no too easily?
(my sister used to tell me that for her when she used debit card after she lost her credit)

My bank immediately ‘reverses’ the debt charge (at least on my side) when I contact them, then investigates.

If it’s fraud, they figure out how to makes themselves whole. If it’s not fraud, and simply a mistake on my part, they re-debit my account.

Small, home town bank, this may not be true for others, but it’s an easy way for me to operate on a ‘cash’ basis without using cash.

I would feel insulted except for the fact you don't know my wife. She is of German background, and if that isn't explanation enough, she is a smart, careful shopper.

I married up a couple of brackets!

Kids are grown and gone.

Since when does a credit card have this much info? The article sounds bogus.

Perhaps they stole the data from customers that shopped online.

It was just a question not an indication that I think I know you.
My married with kids sister lost her credit once so she used to argue(or claim anyway) that if she used credit cards her kids would force her to buy stuff they couldn't afford, I guess she was claiming that's what happened.

I just see no reason a delayed bill is a drawback/.

I forgot to add the real reason we like the debit card, it slows us to operate on a cash basis without the hassle of cash.

We do have a couple of CC, which we use for online purchases. Those have been replaced a number of times in the past few years by the CC company as they were ‘stolen’ and used fraudulently.

We use them so seldom, I set it up to text me whenever they get used for $25 or more. The last two times they were stolen, it was me who called the CC company to let them know someone else was using my card numbers.

I had that happen only once,
yes it was a nuisance to have to change CC account #s and wait a week for a new card.

Cant the same thing happen with debit?

This explains the situation a little better:

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/target-says-stolen-info-data-breach-hit-70-million-people-2D11894083

Apparently it’s another 70 million people affected in addition to the 40 million previously reported. They got this data from customers that had accounts with them online. There is likely some overlap, but they don’t know how much yet.

So far, they are not saying that anyone that shopped there before black Friday had credit/debit data stolen, but who knows what comes next as they dribble this out a little at a time.

Debit card arrives in 24 hours, so yes, that might be a hassle. Guess I’d have to use actual cash!

My chase took a few days I recall. They took their time.
That was > 3 years ago.

back then my other CC was expired for some reason and I used my debit card to fill in and I got charged purchase fees for that, apparently no longer allowed.

That really annoyed me.

We had a small fraud charge on our debit a couple years ago. It took a couple months before we had the dollars restored. But it was really small, under $100 buck so we were not strung out.

Do you have any idea how much personal info is in that magnetic strip on the back of your card? You’d be amazed. Yes, name, addy, phone, email, are all there, and that’s just child’s play. It will also have the security code, what you’re recently purchased, and tons more.

OK... are you gullible enough to believe that or were you being sarcastic?

Not to beat this subject to death,
but I think the moral here is that credit cards give by far the best benefits but if there is some reason to use credit cards then always use the debit card in credit card mode, not debit card mode.

The difference is that debit card more requires a pin and is not protected from theft/fraud, where-as a debit card with a visa label on it that is used in credit card mode offers some worthwhile fraud protections that are similar to a credit cards.

Is this accurate ?
