Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey issued repeated apologies Thursday for the abuse of office that now threatens to undermine his political future. Though he sounded remorseful and clearly sorry that this scandal might sink his ambitions for national office he blamed his staff for making him a victim. Unbeknown to him, he said, they shut down lanes to the George Washington Bridge to create a four-day traffic jam to punish a local mayor who failed to endorse him in last years election.
Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, appearing contrite, held a nearly two-hour news conference in Trenton on Thursday.Very Sad Chris Christie Extends Apology in Bridge ScandalJAN. 9, 2014 He said he fired his stupid and deceitful deputy chief of staff, Bridget Anne Kelly, because she lied to me about the gridlock scheme. Mr. Christie has also asked a Republican operative and former campaign adviser, Bill Stepien, to withdraw as a candidate to take over the state Republican Party. He, too, was on the email chain. Two of Mr. Christies appointees to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, David Wildstein and Bill Baroni, resigned in December as news of the traffic vendetta became public.
Through his 108-minute news conference, Mr. Christie insisted over and over that he knew absolutely nothing about this illegal scheme. He was blindsided with the news on Wednesday morning, he said. That was the first time he said he saw emails showing how his aides gleefully plotted to shut down traffic lanes to punish Mayor Mark Sokolich of Fort Lee, N.J. For that reason, he said he is embarrassed and humiliated. This version of reality simply does not add up.

As a prosecutor Krispy should have known better, the longer you talk the longer crap can come back to bite you in the rear end...
The Dims were celebrating, not for an immediate take down of Krispy, but for one that will no doubt occur AFTER the 2016 RNC convention if Krispy is selected as either pres or vice pres candidate....
Oh no you’re not. It’s designed and timed to cover the ever more important Gates disclosure of bad characters all around including his own
You’ll sit down and you’ll take it, as Bogey would say
Too bad they don’t hold their lord and savior Obama to the same high standard...
I don’t care about RINO Christie, but everyone realize that this is the media’s distraction of the week/month to keep the focus off of Obamacare.
Correct. Allowing this to go on this long was a stupid mistake. Sorry for all those FReepers who saw this as a killer performance in crisis management, but anyone who has experience in such things will tell you that Christie couldn’t have handled it much worse.
But since it will nip his POTUS ambitions in the bud, I don’t care.
Interesting collection. Are any of them US citizens?
not a lot of diversity there...

I could care less about Christie. He was the one hugging Obama a few days before the ‘12 election. He is nothing but a socialist in sheep’s clothing! Let’s go down on the side of righteousness and conservatism. Ted Cruz 2016!
"You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy ..."
They’re rejects from Putin’s politburo...lol.
The research committee of whatever they’re calling themselves, already has 1000 pages of documents.
Let’s see what’s revealed, if anything.
I assume people can see that and if not, to realize that anyone without an impeccable character and superior leadership and classic education cannot get to that level in New Jersey without a command of the practice of thuggery, especially after seeing the turncoaperfoance prancing with his Sandy BFF and our nemesis, BO, but I know i expect too much
Is it too much to expect this story to not sound as if he blew up the bridge, dwarfing, for the moment all of the worse things BO is doing to the very fabric of our society ?
Its very Maltese Falcon
I guess we were tapping into the tone and even the theme
It was just that slapping around that I pictured didnt even know which flick nor the victim
But you’re right, that’s the scene
Now that’s impressive. BO can shut down the govt thee parks the WWII mem. And not only deflect blame but blame the whole thing in a freshman senator
And then its forgotten
Plenty of RINOs around to play the part of Wilmer.
I often compare it all to Shakespeare political dramas, pick any one, but good old Dashiell Hammett comes through
All the doing of the MSM. The public buys what they’re told.
They’re not watching enough classic drama. Same story same characters. It goes back to (and beyond) Richard III, lady Macbeth, and Brus/Marc Antony
Bogey, Olivier and Dench captured it.
The viewers could take a sober look at all the hand-wringing and share eking and put it into perspective, but they have no perspective, nor, BYW, sense of humor, and see this for what it is. A scam pulled out of a drawer at the right time
Their attention is focused on sound bytes and reality TV.
And Christie is silly. All thugs who fool around with power get caught
They’re not going to let him advance. He has a purpose on their plying field.
At this point it will take a whole lot of wisdom to get beyond what the dopey republicans have done to the conservative position
But falling for this as a real scandal is silly.
I won't cry for Christie though. He's a Rino.
Not to defend Chris Krispy Kreme, but how is it somehow bad when he blames his staff for a relatively minor problem, but at the same time it is just fine and dandy that Obama blames Bush and/or the Republicans for everything under the Sun (including hangnails) that he creates?
Nothing like hypocricy, NY SLIMES!
The media will build him back up in the Republican primaries and, if he gets the nomination, will then use this incident as part of its campaign to ensure he loses to the Dem. Same process used for McCain and Romney.
Now how about a NY Times editorial calling for a special prosecutor to look in Begnhazi where an ambassador and four others were murdered.? Oh, forgot, “What difference does it now make”?
The bigger crime is always going to be gates coming in and dissing the bamster. Got to shut that down.
Oy I’m watching too much imus
