Unions are funding Republican groups to help push through amnesty for illegal immigrants.
What do George Soros, labor unions, and money-grubbing former GOP representative Steven LaTourette all have in common? Theyre control freaks. Theyre power hounds. Theyre united against tea-party conservatives. And they have all operated under the umbrella of D.C. groups masquerading as Main Street Republicans.
LaTourette heads up the so-called Main Street Partnership, which claims to represent thoughtful, pragmatic, commonsense, and centrist Republican leadership. Reality check: The pro-bailout, pro-debt, pro-amnesty, anti-drilling group founded by former liberal GOP representative Amory Houghton of New York includes three liberal Senate Republicans (John McCain, Mark Kirk, and Susan Collins) and 52 center-left House Republicans. LaTourette himself is a self-serving Beltway barnacle who held office for nearly two decades. Now hes using his new tea-party-bashing platform to benefit a family-operated lobbying business.
The New York Times shed light on LaTourettes tangled web of Republican-establishment outfits last week. But that story just scratched the surface. As the paper reported, the Main Street Partnership is a nonprofit group that charges members up to $25,000 per year to rub elbows with Washingtons rich and powerful. The Main Street Advocacy Fund and the Defending Main Street super PAC are political satellites planning to amass $8 million to bolster Republican liberals and moderates facing tea-party challengers in 2014. McDonald Hopkins Government Strategies is LaTourettes lobbying firm.
The Times notes that corporations and lobbyists fund the Main Street Partnership. But far-left donors provided seed money for these affiliated K Street fronts. Whos behind the Defending Main Street super PAC? Big Labor. National Journals Scott Bland reported on the labor connection last month: Two labor organizations, the International Union of Operating Engineers and the Laborers International Union of North America, directed a combined $400,000 to the Republican group in September and October. Main Street says it has raised roughly $2 million total between its super PAC and an affiliated nonprofit group so far and that means labor has supplied at least 20 percent of those funds.
Along with the anti-tea-party U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Main Street fat cats and union leaders have banded together to help President Obama push through amnesty for illegal aliens. The payoff: cheap labor for big business, cheap votes for the Democratic party.
Main Street Partnerships chief operating and financial officer is Sarah Chamberlain Resnick. She also serves on the partnerships board of directors and previously served as an officer of the soft-money-raising Main Street Individual Fund. The MSIF is yet another spinoff group that received $50,000 from progressive billionaire George Soros in 2002, soon after it was created. Soros also dangled a seven-figure contribution in front of the Main Street Partnership, but Resnick said the group declined that one. The MSIF accepted a separate $50,000 Soros donation during the 2004 election cycle. It was mysteriously returned in November 2005 after I called attention to it.
These various groups are legally independent entities on paper, but they have shared staff and legal resources. When I reported on the Main Street farce eight years ago, the partnerships counsel sent me a threatening letter baselessly claiming I had made libelous statements about its network. My sin? Exposing the radical environmental funders of Main Street Republicans who had sabotaged House conservative efforts to open up drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The Main Street Republicans back then gloated over their successful campaign to force squishy GOP leaders in D.C. to cave in to the Left. Theres nothing principled about their agenda. Its not about common sense. Its about the Benjamins. These statists in populist clothing are running a Washington incumbency-protection racket. Same as it ever was.

I can’t believe that Linseed Graham isn’t a member.
As vile as this is, it is simply the Dems executing their game plan. Something the stupid party is too lazy and careerist infiltrated to do themselves.
I noticed that Pete Olsen (TX) and John Cornyn (TX) are not a part of this organization...But they are probably being handled by another faction of GOPe donors and supporters...
And attackers to boot...
The MSM will ignore this because they don't want to tip off everyday conservatives that elite Republican congresscritters aren't much different then the dem whores... they've being bought and paid for by George Soros.
Ever wonder why congress is FOR illegals becoming citizens while Americans are against it?
That's democrat citizens and conservative citizens - none of us want illegals here.
Yet, big money like Soros sits there and pays not crap to get his way...( Taxpayers pay for the buildings, the staff, salaries etc...) We pay the bulk of all expenses for congress - but the whore-mongers come in and provide money to run campaigns... It's time to change the laws. The only jobs congress protects are their own.
What benefit would it be for unions to flood the labor force with cheap labor?
half the Repubs in Congress are chomping at the bit for amnesty
Malkin nails this one. She is reliably on the conservative side always throughout her history, so far as I remember. She gets gushy at times on TV, but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s right on the issues.
Thank God for Malkin.
They should call it “The K Street Partnership.”
MORE UNION DUES!!!!!! They don’t care about the wages, they just want the UNION DUES!
Petri and Duffy ping!
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
—had a person from the RNC last night to whom I delivered a rant against this—hope she passes it on along with my explanation of why they get nothing from me anymore—
No matter what, we can be sure that the Republican primary voters will remain clueless.
The person you talked to is likely a low-paid employee who is probably a Democrat to boot, and probably donesn’t even know the names of the Republican officeholders for whom he (she) is soliciting funds.
