Debating this on another forum... What do you all think?
Prior to her infamy, was Tonya Harding not the best skater in the world?
She appears at about 1:20 in the video.
Tonya Harding was a thug and should have done prison time.
Indeed, she was a hard girl, a smoking, drinking, ass-kicking trailer trash hussy. But watching some of those "pre-clubbing" videos makes it clear that she was also a world-class athlete.
I always thought Nancy Kerrigan was kind of not-guilty, but that incident ruined her, I think.
She never recovered from the “Why? Why?” sobbing.
I felt kind of bad for her...she was obviously pretty terrified, and in the new age, everything showed up on film.

Probably not. Otherwise, she would not have felt the need to have Nancy Kerrigan assaulted.

Harding has great height but there is just something missing.
She didn’t have to THWACK her opposition and be world champion in order to make a good living from her reputation in her sport.
She just needed a good agent.
Couldn’t believe there’s a movie coming out about this event. Didn’t Harding descend into wrestling or maybe even mud wrestling? (my neighbor says porn too, but I’m not so sure about that).
Tonya Harding finished 4th in the 1992 Olympics. She looks terrible now, reflection of her hard life.

Sure, but if you watch the vide posted, you don't see Nancy Kerrigan. You don't see Kristy Yamaguchi. You don't see Oksana Baiul...
You see Tonya Harding land the 3A over and over and over again, making it look easy.
No. You saw power. Harding could land a 3A and dunk a basketball. Look at how high she's in the air.
Actually, she finished 18th in the 1994 Olympics. She botched it. Kerrigan won the silver and Ukraine's Oksana Baiul won the gold in perhaps the most viewed event at Lillehammer.
The best description I heard of Tonya Harding at the Olympics was that she was “a dump truck at a sports car rally.”

Oh, gosh. I don’t dispute that at all.
But that isn’t really the point, is it?
Aaron Hernandez was a great tight end with a huge amount of talent. But his ability is the equivalent of a skid mark on white underwear to me.
Same with Harding.
Oh, she was a wreck at Lillehammer, no doubt about that.
But prior, she was awesome.
She had plenty of raw power, but no grace.
And that was her life off the ice, too.
Nah, She's redeemed herself over the years. She's not evil.
I'll tell you what though, Hollywood couldn't have ever come up with a better story...
Peggy Fleming has always been a class act, whereas Sonja Harding, it’s like having Sandra Bullock standing next to Lindsay Lohan, a contrast in styles.
