The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

H. L. Mencken

And “Global Warming” is just another one of these hobgoblins.

Our dishwasher pump froze at -11 outside. Been in this 60+ year old house for 6 years and never had that happen before. Dealt with it and the reason, which was caused by the idiot former owner.

BUT....

Wah wah wah wah wah! I want the govenment to help me!!! No one warned me that global warming would freeze my dishwasher. I want to sue someone. Send aid. I want reparations. Wash my dishes!!! The machine is WHITE and therefore a racist! The words on the controls are in English and my illegal immigrant helpers can’t read them!

There. Gotta get practice being a whiner.

Oh dont you believe it. They can always drum up another earth ending crisis to replace this one. There are ALWAYS immediate dangers that need vast quantities of attention and money RIGHT NOW.

Imagine you could get a great deal on Hot Hands in the spring. Bought a ventless natural gas heater and nat. gas fireplace logs in May and got a great deal. Bought a zero turn mower in Nov. and saved a ton all at Lowes. They will dicker in their off season.

Out side water spigot froze in Memphis, despite one of those caps and water turned off. Broke off when it thawed enough to work on it. Had light bulbs on the inside pipe. Thank God it was only the patio room.

By the time it hits mid Feb most of them are gone off the shelves. I stock up as soon as they put them out. We have the gas logs. When we bought this 12 year old house, we had it inspected, well the inspector missed a lot. No sofet vents in attic. Metal windows, that were not HE, those we just replaced, 1 more to go, 1 broke in shipping.

We got a Cub Cadet that had 1 hr on it cheap at Home Deopt and got our Military discount on top of it, and % off for opening a charge account, we never used. and 1% back using Discover.

We are going to pay the window payments with gift cards bought at Kroger’s. Double the gas points. The manager has to turn it into cash and you can then pay the payment. 1% back on Discover.

Now if he can find new fuel injectors for his antique Vet he will be happy.

Every year there’s a spell of a few weeks in Jan./Feb. when the temperatures can go negative. Likewise in June/July, temps can be above 100 for a couple of weeks - exactly the same as when I was a kid 40 years ago. The main difference I’ve noticed in my life time in New England is that when I was a kid, it seemed that there was snow on the ground continuously from December through April.

I am in John Deere country. Paint it green and trim in yellow and it just runs better and lasts longer. I have had John Deere tractors, front end loaders, and mowers and a Gator and they do work well with few breakdowns and high resell in this area.

Bought my Zero turn J.D. it was marked no warranty and had .8 tenths of an hour on it. It was repaired by the local J.D. tractor and mower dealer and I got the serial number and work order number and went to talk to them. They said the engine had been placed on top of a section of the wiring harness and they replaced it and they found nothing else wrong with it. They said I could register the warranty thru them with no problem.

3495. was the price at Lowes offered 1500. since it had no warranty and was considered used. Ended up paying 1900. After 3 days of haggling with 3 different managers, I finally beat them into submission. Did I mention I was in the car biz for over 20 years. It comes in handy sometimes.

Let me know if he can’t find the injectors, I still know some folks in the car biz. Have a great day.

Fun.

After I posted, we had a major thaw here that took out about 10 inches of snow in no time. Came home one day to the water meter running full tilt because two ruptured underground (not deep enough!) 3/4” pipes to a rarely used room thawed. Wonder what how many gallons we sent into the water table. Forgot to shut the suckers off when it got cold. Oops.

That will give me something to do when the weather warms up a bit more!

We only got the cold and rain. This is an unheated covered patio with a hot tub. The outside water was turned off. And a cap on the faucet. Light bulb on the inside turn off line. Only leaked outside thank God. We have put way to much money into this house, and it is for sale. 2 old people out grew the care of a house with 4 bdrms, 3 baths, den, parlor, dinning room, kitchen, media room, back roof replaced last year, front this year, along with the den parque being refinished, kitchen cabinets all wood were refinished 2 yrs ago. New carpet in upstairs master bdrm and hall/stairs. 3,800 sq ft. We down sized to a starter home. All we are getting is wanna be renters who can’t pass a credit check.
