"....Regina Hill, 48, said she has no plans to drop her political campaign for a council seat, despite a history of arrests for drug offenses, multiple DUIs and other charges. In fact, she said her checkered past makes her more qualified to represent District 5, which still struggles with high levels of crime, unemployment and homelessness.
"...I've walked in their shoes," Hill said. "I've overcome those obstacles and I know what they go through."....
......Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show that Hill began racking up arrests a week after she turned 18 in 1983. She was last arrested in 2009, on a contempt of court charge.
During that 26-year span, she was charged with an array of offenses. In 1989, at age 23, she was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell. Records show she received a four-month jail sentence and three years probation, with credit for time already served.
Hill also had six arrests for driving under the influence between 1997 and 2006.
Other arrests include passing bad checks in 1994, to which she pleaded no contest and was ordered to pay restitution; and marijuana possession in 2005, to which she pleaded no contest and was ordered to perform community service.
Florida is one of three states that strips those with felony convictions of the right to vote, serve on juries or hold public office. Most of the charges Hill faced were misdemeanors, but two were felonies: the cocaine conviction and a 1995 fraud arrest for using a false name to obtain a driver's license.
State records show that Hill applied to have her civil rights restored, and the request was granted in 2008 by the Florida Parole Commission's Office of Executive Clemency. That cleared the way for her current City Council campaign.......

Probably a lot of stuff. But, she’s ‘entitled’ and by some means she got a pardon from the Governor (probably as one of Holder’s people, a little pushing from the DoJ, too).
The word I hate the most (used constantly) is DESERVES.
It must poll well.
Of course. The word implies actually having done something substantive to warrant the ‘gift’ (what they call ‘rightful due’).
At a glance, she looks better than the incumbent she’s trying to oust. Also, I believe seat is in Alcee Hasting’s district..so if being an impeached judge isn’t a disqualifier for a House seat, well....
Without even clicking the link I’m just going to ask....
How black is she?
She’s diverse.
I have always thought that a good preacher most likely did some sinning on his way to the light. In this woman’s case, she should be able to feel their pain when the price of coke goes up and the availability of heroin goes down. She is definitely a qualified Dem.
They need someone who will direct them on a better path, not one that walks the same path.
Here’s the thing. You go off to Birmingham or Memphis (two areas that I am somewhat familiar with). You have a city council, and regular elections.
There are vast neighborhoods in both cities....where there just isn’t anyone with incentive, clean lifestyle, or competence to run for city council from those neighborhoods.
So you go to the second level of potential candidates...usually nutcases, naive religious folks who are easily swayed by just about anyone, or some guy who spent four months in the Army before getting kicked out.
Then you come to the third group....all those folks with drug records, and various arrests.
This is how Detroit got itself deep into issues. The same can be said now for Chicago. I can probably name forty cities where this is a regular problem. It’s no longer voting and electing the best of the best....it’s finding the best of the worst, and just plain accepting that. The Greeks would be shocked at the vast fall or stumble taken in our brand of democracy.
City Council candidate: 21 arrests do not disqualify me from holding office

“Florida is one of three states that strips those with felony convictions of the right to vote, serve on juries or hold public office.”
All 50 states allow felons to vote, including Florida, most with the only provision being that they have served their time. Florida is among the strictest:
Florida - On Mar. 9, 2011 the Florida rules of Executive Clemency were toughened. Automatic restoration of civil rights and the ability to vote will no longer be granted for any offenses. All individuals convicted of any felony will now have to apply for executive clemency after a five year waiting period. Individuals who are convicted, or who have previously been convicted, of certain felonies such as murder, assault, child abuse, drug trafficking, arson, etc. are subject to a seven year waiting period and a clemency board hearing to determine whether or not the ability to vote will be restored.
Prior to the Mar. 9, 2011 rule change some individuals convicted of nonviolent felonies were re-enfranchised automatically by the Clemency Board upon completion of their full sentence, including payment of fines and fees.

A few nose and lip rings and she could be Dennis Rodman’s sister.
OMG...she’s BLACK!!! How unusual.
From what I have seen blacks in the inner cities don’t care if their politicians are crooked, stupid, or insane as long as they are black.
The article avoids party affiliation so... she’s a RAT!
“Regina Hill, 48, said she has no plans to drop her political campaign for a council seat, despite a history of arrests for drug offenses, multiple DUIs and other charges. In fact, she said her checkered past makes her more qualified”....
Hell, she should be running for Senator or Congress, sounds like she would fit right in.
I’ve often said about Congressional Reps like Cynthia McKinney, Sheila Jackson Lee, and similar - it’s not the fact that people as crazy as they are exist that scares me, it is that there are entire Congressional Districts full of people that will repeatedly vote them into office, and do it by wide margins. THAT scares me.
The biggest difference between Regina Hill and most of 535 members of the US Congress is; When she got caught she did not have enough power to get it covered up.
