General Motors announced Friday that its recalling some 370,000 trucks in North America because of fire risk. The affected models include 2014 Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierra full-size trucks. GM said the vehicles had problems with the software that could lead to overheating of exhaust components and cause fires. GM said it had confirmed eight fires that have resulted from this issue so far, though no injuries. All occured in areas with very cold weather, the automaker said. Drivers will be alerted about the problem by mail, and can take the affected vehicles to dealerships starting next week for free repairs. In the meantime, GM urged owners of the trucks in question to avoid leaving their trucks to idle unattended.

I own a chevy truck and will never buy another one. Cheap and as reliable as a two dollar watch.
Am looking at Toyota FJ or a Tacoma.
Software can crash and burn, but that probably was not literally intended.
I wonder how many ObamaCare insurance policies will be recall due to increased risk of death?
Anybody who buys at GM product at this point is beyond redemption .
Given the cold weather, this makes it a "feature".
Mixing computers with cars. What could go wrong? At least no one died.
I hate to admit it. I bought a Chevy in July. I liked the dealer and the product. I was dead set on buying a Ford, but the local guy couldn’t seal the deal and honestly the Chevy just looked less bland.
Sounds like the root of the problem is some EPA mandate that's supposed to make the catalytic converters heat up faster to where they are efficient after a cold start. OTOH, other manufacturers are able to deal with that.
446,000 miles on a 84 Ford V8 302. Passed smog first time around. Original tranny still in good condition and still has good compression. Had to replace the starter and smog pump, but gas mileage is much better now.
